Their mother, Roberta Ursrey, and other family members swam out to help, but all nine quickly became trapped in the current just yards from shore. Jessica Simmons grabbed a boogie board and swam to the exhausted family, helping keep them afloat until the chain reached them. Ursrey’s mother suffered a heart attack during the ordeal and a nephew broke his hand, but remarkably, all nine family members survived. It remains one of the most inspiring examples of strangers uniting to save lives.
