In Michigan, last month alone, 53 missing people were detected with Flock. Grandparents who lost their way. Kids who were abducted or missing. Yesterday in Fraser, Flock helped locate the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a female motorcyclist. I sat down with Lauren Kostiuk and Local 4 WDIV Detroit to talk about how we’re helping first responders in these cases while also strengthening privacy protections.

If Flock accuses me of a crime, will Flock also show up in court? Someone asked me that recently. Flock doesn't accuse a suspect. It provides objective data. Investigators use a myriad of evidence, from witness testimony to physical forensics. In San Juan Bautista, a two-year-old was killed. His mother fought off the attacker. The suspect fled, thinking he escaped. A Flock LPR found his vehicle heading into neighboring Merced County, where law enforcement arrested him. That evidence, specific, verifiable, one piece of a wider timeline, is exactly what will show up in court later this month.

Crime is now a choice. Agree with Gavin Baker in Chamath Palihapitiya, @jason, David Sacks and david friedberg's recent The All-In Podcast episode. Safety used to follow wealth. Where there was money, there was safety. Where there was not, families were left to absorb the difference. Today? That's over. Flock partners are reducing crime month after month, with a cost of less than $20 per person, per year. Some of the biggest drops come from places that had been told for decades it wasn’t possible. Greenville, MS. Poverty rate above 20% for decades. Violent crime rate the New York Times wrote about. 79% reduction in less than a year with Flock. 90% reduction in homicide. As communities get safer, I think it’s going to feel strange to visit some of the wealthiest parts of America that choose to allow crime to flourish.

An Oakland man, just out of prison for kidnapping, shot an San Francisco Police officer as he tried to evade arrest. The suspect had a history of violence against women. He was driving a vehicle tied to an armed robbery. The moment that car entered the community, Flock alerted officers. A semi-automatic Glock and a P80 ghost gun were found in the car. With Flock, if someone does harm, a single public license plate image helps officers stop them from doing more. Our thoughts are with the officer and her family. Her bravery is exactly why Flock is proud to serve Oakland and San Francisco.

Do more harm. I can’t imagine any other motive in this case. A suspect allegedly set four fires deliberately in the Pacific Palisades. Eighteen months into recovery. Thousands of families are still rebuilding. Flock helped stop him. I'm glad we could serve a community already carrying so much.
