Love this from #Illini head coach Brad Underwood - asked if he has any issue/finds it unfair to have to play Houston IN Houston in the Sweet 16. "I could care less... I'm an old JUCO ball coach. I drove on 16 passenger fans. I drove from Dodge City, Kansas to Mesa, Arizona for a basketball game... If you had told me back then that I'm getting to coach basketball in the Sweet 16 and play Houston - I would sign up for it, I would crawl to get there." Says regardless of where the game is, Illinois would/will need to play well to beat the Cougars. (Video from NCAA)

Hilarious moment in the postgame press conferece: Tomislav Ivisic was asked about fouling out. "I think it wasn't a foul," then he leans over to Underwood. "Can I talk about it?" Underwood: "Yeah, go ahead. Say whatever you want right now." Then Coach realizes what he meant: "No you cannot." 😂😂😂 Tomi: "I was very excited that we were up and that my team did good." (Video from NCAA)

I asked Ben Humrichous - a former NAIA player who just competed in the Final Four - if he has an appreciation for that unlikely journey. I was moved by his answer. "When the buzzer sounded all I wanted to say was praise God - for the gift that this was... By God's grace... It's unlikely... God's sovereign hand being that in that... He did so many incredible things... God's grace just supplied what I need." Ben Humrichous

Don't see this every day: A reporter offered to ask Andrej Stojakovic a question in the postgame press conference in a different language. Andrej suggested they stick to English so the rest of us could understand. He wanted to know if the #Illini junior plans to play for the Serbian national team, plus if he thinks Illinois can compete for a title. "I don't know how anyone could expect me not to say we're going for a National Championship. That's ridiculous if I don't think that we have the confidence to win it all." Underwood jumps in: "Good answer!"

Really interesting stuff here from Illinois State men's basketball coach Ryan Pedon on scheduling. "Mid-majors are getting squeezed out of this thing." "We were like 0-for-60 on trying to schedule high-majors in the regular season... They want to play Quad 1s and Quad 4s that they can beat by 30 or 40 points to not hurt their metrics. So it's stacked against us. For mid-majors, it's becoming harder and harder to get those kinds of opportunities." USC was one that finally agreed to play ISU, on a neutral floor, 'which is nine miles from their campus.' Redbirds played an exhibition against Illinois today and have another at Northwestern on Oct. 29.

David Mirkovic's first name is pronounced (DAH-VID) -- not Day-vid or Dah-veed. However, he says it's all good if you get it wrong. "I'm cool with David (Day-vid), like you can say David." Hilarious quote: "A lot of media thinks that I'm going to get offended if you say [Day-vid]... Since I was a kid, my nickname was David." (Video from WSPA/ABC 7)

Really, really honest, insightful stuff here from Andrej Stojakovic. He says everything got blurry as the buzzer sounded - he doesn't remember anything until getting back to the locker room. The last two seasons - the end of the season was obvious for him - on non-tournament teams. This time it was abrupt - and it hurt.

#Illini head coach Brad Underwood credits assistant coach Cam Crocker for the defensive game plan. He says Illinois planned to let Chris Cenac take short/mid-range jump shots. "Every shot he took was one their guards didn't take... It worked." (Video from KXAN)

"I actually wanted to tempo the whole freaking game, because they couldn't do shit with it." Bret Bielema says #Illini needed to go tempo earlier on offense, says Ohio State has good players + good coordinator and that was one way Illinois put pressure on the Buckeyes.

Here's a sneak peak to the story I'm putting together on Jake Davis becoming an honorary Balkan with the #Illini. Tomislav Ivisic: "He's like 40% Balkan now. We're looking for his wife, a Croatian one." Says he needs to work on the language, but the Balkans plan to bring Jake to their home countries this summer.

Brad Underwood says the reason he suggested calling off the handshake line is because Illinois is so sick. He didn't want to spread it to Wisconsin. Jake Davis got sick pregame and didn't even join the team at halftime. Tomislav Ivisic didn't travel with the team and drove up to try and play. "In 38 years I've never seen anything like what's gone through our team."

Bret Bielema is expecting the NCAA to pass a rule giving players five years of eligibility. "I think 5 for 5 will be in place for the guys next year, I don't have any reservations of that... I know the Big Ten is 100% behind it, I know the Big 12 was when I talked to Coach McGuire (Texas Tech) and I talked to several SEC coaches who said the SEC was going to be on board, as well." Says AD Josh Whitman shares the same belief, they hope it'll go through in October with the announcement of the change to one portal window.

Talked to #Illini head baseball coach Dan Hartleb about avoiding information overload with his guys. Interesting 2.5 minutes here, IMO. "You want to give your players information, yet, they have to react." "In baseball 70% of the hits are in front of the outfield. So if you train to hit them over the outfielders, you're training for 30%." Says he doesn't want players overly focused on metrics and analytics -- need to go compete at some point.

"How? How? How do you not call that?" Bret Bielema was in disbelief after no flag was thrown for PI on the target to Collin Dixon early in the third quarter. He RAN down the sideline to ask the official about it. (Slo-mo of the play at the end here) Not the first time today the #Illini bench (and crowd) has been frustrated by a no-call.

Bret Bielema: "It's the memories that are created... I'm going to watch [Luke Altmyer and Miles Scott] play in the NFL and I'm going to smile a whole lot." And he pivots for a quick note: "I think SEC is now 0-4, and we'd be 5-0 in the Big Ten?" (I think he's talking non-playoff bowl games? If so, Big Ten now 5-1 after USC lost to TCU, SEC is 0-3)
