Definitely the weirdest start to a press conference I’ve ever experienced 😂

Jason Kidd was asked by Ron Harrod Jr. about the national criticism for playing Cooper Flagg at point guard. Kidd: "Criticism? That’s your opinion. You guys write that bullshit. That’s not — I’ve done this. I’ve played this game. I played it. I know what the fuck I’m doing. "I don’t give a fuck what you guys write because you guys have never played the game. I build players, so I know what the fuck I’m doing. So if I take criticism, it only makes me better, because if I wasn’t doing it right, you guys wouldn’t be poking holes in what I’ve done."

![Luka Doncic was asked about the Dallas Mavericks feeling they need to "earn" his loyalty to avoid him being the next superstar to ask for a trade. "I saw the report. I don't know who, somebody said that I was going to request a trade. It was funny because I didn't know that was true. I didn't say it." What if things don't improve?: "I'm happy here. There's nothing to worry [about]."](https://image.24vids.com/tw-1645187617267351554/ext_tw_video_thumb/1645186719522643970/pu/img/ITWZT1PaznWVuxYB.jpg)

Luka Dončić was asked if facing the Dallas Mavericks gave him closure about the trade. "The closure is going to take a while, I think... It's not ideal, but like I said, I'm glad this game is over. There's a lot of emotions, but we go little by little, and every day is better."

Mavs GM Nico Harrison says Patrick Dumont "laughed at me" the first time he brought up trading Luka Dončić. "Patrick, he's the owner, the ultimate decision-maker, but he entrusts in J Kidd and I to run this team... At some point, if it doesn't work out, I'll be judged for that."

You can almost just look at a fan section and if you wait long enough, a fan gets removed.

![Summer Mavs coach Jared Dudley shared his thoughts on what Jaden Hardy has to show to earn more playing time next season. "I'm not a head coach, but he averages, what, 15 minutes? For him to get to 25, 27 minutes, his defense has to [be there] — his awareness off-ball, being low-man, [guarding] pin-downs... It took me when I played two, three years of that, and I went to [Boston College] for four years. So by asking the guy in the fire, he's having to guard the likes of Kyrie [Irving] and Luka [Doncic], where these guys are elite. So for him, it's off-ball awareness. "And then offensively, I mean, I think he shot 40 percent on step-back 3s. So it shows you his capability, but can he make the reads? Can he make the lob pass [after reading the] low man? Can he make the corner pass? Will he let the game come to him if he's [shooting] 1-6? Is he going to shoot two more bad shots? And that's why I try to try to ease him, 'Hey, you're getting 20 shots.' All my plays are for Hardy. "And listen, we know that he has to. And so it's geared for him. But at the same time, like you have a lot of responsibility. It's not because you agree like to shoot every time. It's very similar to Luka." ![Here's GM Nico Harrison's message for any Mavericks fans frustrated by the Luka Dončić trade: "I'm sorry they're frustrated, but it's something we believe in as an organization that's going to make us better. Damian Lillard on advice for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: "He's in a situation where he's playing free. ... He's got a group of guys that understand he's the leader, he's the guy. ... His career is in a great position. ... I'd say the grass is not always greener on the other side..."

Mavs GM Nico Harrison often brought up culture. Did Luka Dončić no longer fit? "No, I'm not going to talk bad about any players. There's levels to it. There are people that fit the culture and others who add to it. The people we're bringing in are adding to the culture."

Cooper Flagg grabbed at his left foot before shooting free throws. By making the first, he recorded his first 40-point NBA game. Missing the second free throw gave Dallas possession, setting up two free throws for Max Christie and tying it 129-129 with 3.9 seconds.

![I asked Kyrie Irving about what goes into his preparation that enables him to do something like return from injury and look in rhythm: "Well, you're usually there, right? Early watching [my pre-game on-court workouts]. I don't think it's any extra science or anything like that, but it comes down to being intentional about my reps. I could sit at home or be on the court and be like, 'I wish my foot felt as great as it has all season,' but it's just not the reality. Just taking my reps out there on the floor and being efficient in the opportunities I have. It's not the first time I've played with an injury or anything like that. Just keep pushing and keep getting rehab and recovery to put myself in the best position."](https://image.24vids.com/tw-1636972109225402368/ext_tw_video_thumb/1636970564412899328/pu/img/HYT_a-qOSUEcY8pD.jpg)
