Total confusion is gripping the markets. Let’s clear the fog on the Yen, the Carry Trade.💹 The Yen collapse is actually providing a massive buffer for a multi trillion dollar carry trade. An abrupt unwind here would be cataclysmic, threatening to derail the global financial system and that’s before factoring in hyper-inflated valuations abroad. This global situation will not end quietly. For now, the declining Yen isn't an immediate threat to the carry trade. But Japan is staring down a massive sovereign bond market crisis. A weak Yen acts as an inflation accelerator. Because Japan imports almost all of its oil, skyrocketing energy costs are becoming an extreme economic burden. As inflation continues to heat up, the cornered BOJ will be forced to lift rates higher. This policy shift will inevitably strengthen the Yen, sparking a brutal, chaotic unwind of the global carry trade. The Godzilla trade remains dormant for now. God help us if it awakens. 📉🇯🇵
