From Saint Elias Church, our people stood in defiance. Voices raised in unison, chanting as the blood of the victims still stained the floor: Christ is risen! Their faith did not waver. Even in the face of terror, they proclaimed life over death, and hope over fear.

Even after 300 years of communion with Rome, the Melkite Greeks of levant have never forsaken their traditions. At the very heart of the Pope’s funeral, His Beatitude Joseph Absi, Patriarch of Antioch for the Melkite Greeks, raised his voice in the ancient Greek chant, a living testament to an unbroken heritage.

From the ancient city of #Damascus, along the Straight Street where Saint Paul once walked, #Christian protesters continue to stand against the foreign fighters affiliated with HTS. They are demanding their expulsion from Christian towns. Chanting, ‘We are your men, Jesus Christ. We are your men, Jesus Christ. With my blood and soul, I sacrifice for my cross.

Elementary school children marched at the Damascus Book Fair chanting “Allahu Akbar” and “Gaza is our motto” — slogans widely associated with Hamas. This raises serious concerns that a new generation is being shaped around militant narratives with potentially far-reaching consequences.

We are not asking the Greek government for money or visas. We are asking for something far more meaningful: to use its diplomatic voice to call for an urgent U.N. meeting on the situation of Syrian Christians after the Saint Elias Church massacre. While your brethren mourn their loved ones today, let their cries be heard in the halls of international power.

A jihadi from Gaza, originally from Khan Younes and now Sharaa’s second-in-command, stood with his unit—calling themselves the Syrian Army—at the Umayyad Mosque and declared: “We didn’t come here to stop. Be patient, Gaza—we’re coming to Jerusalem.” These are the people Netanyahu wanted to make peace with.

The #Greek Prime Minister : Obviously, we have a role and a voice in Syria for three key reasons: •We are geographically very close. •We are the natural guardians of the #Greek Orthodox community in both Lebanon and Syria, whether Greek-speaking or Arabic-speaking. •We are on the front lines of the refugee crisis.

From Damascus , we have not forgotten the Greek our sacred language, and we still speak the chant even as fresh blood stains the floor. But it seems our brethren in Greece have forgotten us. We need Greece to call for an urgent U.N. meeting on Syria.

Ma’aloula, the only place in the world where the language of #Christ is still spoken, has been cut off from the outside world for two days. The same jihadist group that previously kidnapped 13 nuns from the Monastery of St. Thecla in Maaloula—Jabhat al-Nusra—has returned to the town, declaring a “victory” over its Christian community and its ancient monastery. For the past two days, Maaloula has been completely cut off, with no internet or communication. The town is besieged by these Islamist forces, and there is a growing fear that a massacre may already be unfolding. Immediate action is needed to prevent a tragedy. Media outlets and Western and Arab diplomats must direct their attention to Maaloula. The embassies of Italy, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar are urged to act swiftly to ensure access to the town and protect its people and heritage. Silence and inaction now could lead to an irreversible catastrophe.

15 people were killed in a brutal terrorist attack on St. Elias Antiochian Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus. This was not just an attack on lives, but on faith, history, and identity. Greece and Cyprus, your people look to you. Protect them.

There are concerns that HTS security forces may be interfering with the crime scene. They encircled St. Elias Church shortly after the attack. We urgently need international investigators on the ground — with the support of Greece and Cyprus — to ensure transparency and justice.
