Vasil was deputy commander of the Volat battalion of the Kalinouski Regiment, was awarded the medal “Ukraine above all” and participated in battles in Kherson, Mykolaiv and Luhansk regions. After finishing his service, Vasil tried to seek asylum in the EU, but Lithuania recognized him as a threat to national security and banned him from entering the EU. This is despite the fact that his close ones are in Lithuania. After that, the man had to live in Georgia for some time, and then went to Asia, where he was detained – Vietnam extradited him to the Lukashenka regime. According to Verameichyk’s fellow soldiers, the Ukrainian embassy in Vietnam was aware of the situation. Friends of the ex-fighter feared that he might be deported to Belarus, which eventually happened. According to Yaraslau Bekish, Vasil Verameichyk faces over 20 years in prison or even death penalty in Belarus.
