Earlier this week, Constable Sorbara stopped a driver on Centennial Parkway who was travelling 147km/hour instead of the posted 70km/hour speed limit. Yesterday, Hamilton Police arrested a 51-year-old Toronto man in a gift card fraud investigation. Investigators determined the suspect switched barcodes on store gift cards, causing the loaded value to be transferred to cards in his possession and leaving customers with no remaining balance. With the holiday season approaching, Hamilton Police remind the public to inspect gift cards for signs of tampering, keep receipts, and check balances only on official retailer websites. #hamont #giftcardfraud

Hamilton Police Service, alongside Peel, Waterloo, and York Regional Police, and the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario, announced the results of Project Sommes — a major investigation into organized retail theft. The joint operation resulted in 21 individuals charged and 175 charges laid, with investigators recovering more than $1 million in stolen property and seizing six vehicles.
