Reporting the ground reality from Ranchi, Jharkhand. After Jantar Mantar, students are protesting against repeated exam irregularities and delays in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) recruitment process. In the 26 years since Jharkhand was formed, JPSC has conducted civil services examinations only 14 times. Years of delays, cancellations, allegations of irregularities, and prolonged uncertainty have left thousands of aspirants frustrated, with many feeling that their futures have been put on hold. The protest has also taken on a political dimension, with the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) extending its support to the students. I strongly believe PM Modi benefits politically whenever the debate shifts from accountability to personal abuse. It allows him to present himself as the victim instead of answering difficult questions. We’ve seen this pattern before: the main issue fades into the background while the focus turns to insults directed at him. This tendency is often associated with authoritarian politics, where supporters can simultaneously view themselves as morally or culturally superior while also believing they are under constant attack. As a result, their leader is portrayed as both immensely powerful and perpetually victimized—a combination that can be politically effective.
