Henry Ergas gave one the most chilling critiques of ABC News that I have ever heard, and left me wondering why we are still funding such an entirely ideologically captured institution that's meant to uphold impartial, fact-based journalism. At the Sydney Institute, in his speech "Gaza, the ABC and Public Service Broadcasting," Ergas noted that an audit of ABC material over one month found: Gaza mentions = 6,000 Gaza and famine mentions = 3,400 Sudan mentions = 0 Darfur mentions = 1 This was the same month that the World Food Programme was calling Sudan's famine crisis the world's greatest contemporary hunger emergency with: 25 million people acutely food insecure 650,000 in catastrophic hunger The highest figure anywhere, and rising❗️ Even atrocities against the Masalit, including the rape of children as young as ONE, barely made a ripple in ABC news. When I see on this platform the Israel Derangement Syndrome of current and former ABC journalists - I now see that it is entirely systemic.
