“Neo-Nazis have no influence in Ukraine. It’s all Kremlin propaganda.” So I’m told by the Slava Ukraini crowd, including a remarkable number of Western leftists who have apparently mistaken political denial for antifascism. Now, take a good look at what happened in Lviv today. Ihor Sholtys, a former officer of the Nachtigall Battalion — named after the notorious Nazi-collaborationist formation of 1941 — now part of Azov Corps, turned up with his boys to violently disrupt an event organized by left-wing activists. Among those beaten was historian, war veteran, and Social Movement activist Vladyslav Starodubtsev. And now, dear leftists, here comes the punchline. Take a long, hard look at Vladyslav’s face. That is what your romantic flirtation with Ukrainian neo-Nazis may eventually earn you. The irony is particularly exquisite in Vladyslav’s case: he himself had attacked me for criticizing precisely the same neo-Nazis. Apparently, the antifascist credentials of Ukrainian ultranationalists come with an expiration date — usually the moment you find yourself on the receiving end of their fists. These men exist. They are real. And they exercise power on Ukraine’s streets, while its young, already badly limping democracy struggles to remain upright. And as that democracy slowly bleeds out, the Western chorus keeps chanting its favorite magic spell: Slava Ukraini! Because apparently, if you shout it loudly enough, you can drown out the sound of democracy having its teeth knocked out.

Oh, sweetheart, that’s exactly what empires do. Always have, always will. They’ll squeeze every last drop out of Ukraine in their little geopolitical chess match with Russia. And once Ukraine runs out of fresh meat for the grinder in their glorious crusade against the Russian bear, they’ll toss it aside like a used napkin and cut a cozy little deal with Putin. Business as usual. Empires don’t do loyalty, darling. They do transactions. It’s called reality. You’re welcome to accept it or keep living in your adorable little fantasyland. Reality, unfortunately, doesn’t give a flying fuck about your wishful thinking. So how about you stop feeding Ukrainians into the meat grinder, put down your imperial cosplay props, and sit your ass down to sign a goddamn peace deal? ---- Zelensky: We cannot accept diesel deals, these arrangements, because then there will be gas agreements. I'm sure of that. Sanctions will be lifted after gas.

Stepan Bandera’s remains must be brought back to Ukraine and reburied on Ukrainian soil - Petro Poroshenko’s party stated in the Parliament. Behold the collective psychosis of this Ukraine’s opposition: apparently, importing the bones of a fascist is the missing ingredient for military victory, economic growth, and a miraculous surge in Ukrainian fertility rates. Who needs air defense systems, a functioning economy, or a strategy to end the war when you can simply dig up a dead fascist and hope his skeleton performs geopolitical miracles? These people have overdosed so spectacularly on ethno-nationalism that they seem to have forgotten one inconvenient detail: fairy tales about the OUN and UPA cannot shoot down Russian drones, rebuild shattered cities, or resurrect the sons and daughters Ukraine has lost on the battlefield. Instead of figuring out how to bring this devastating war to an end, they are busy putting their nationalist agenda on steroids and treating historical mythology as a substitute for actual statecraft. And here is the darkest irony of all: Ukrainian integral nationalism itself is one of the contributing factors to the very tragedy Ukraine is now enduring. But never mind. Apparently, the road to victory runs through a cemetery. When you run out of solutions, try importing a corpse. Slava Ukraini!

Two young Ukrainian men are sharing videos of how they spent 14 days escaping the open-air prison called “Ukraine” and making it to Romania. Let’s all raise a glass to two lives saved — two young men who won’t be turned into battlefield statistics for the interests of the “Epstein class” in yet another proxy war. “Mom is gone. They took Dad away. Who am I supposed to live with?!” the boy cries for his father, who was taken away by draft officers to be sent off to war. His father was the boy’s sole legal guardian — which means he was legally entitled to a deferment from military service. Yet violations like this are increasingly becoming the norm. Mobilization quotas won’t fill themselves. Welcome to Zelenskyy’s country of “Four Freedoms.”

“Help me!” screams a young man in sheer terror as he is dragged away by Ukrainian draft officers—to be sent into the kill zone and, quite possibly, to his death. Listen to his scream, you who sit in Brussels deciding the fate of Ukrainian men. Listen carefully. May that scream haunt your sleep. If he dies, his blood will be on your hands—as will the blood of tens of thousands of other working-class men sent to the front against their will.

Brutal forced mobilization in Lviv. And now, my dear defenders of conscription, imagine that the man being treated this way is your husband, your brother, your son. Would you still defend it? Would you want this to happen to him? Most likely, he will end up in the infantry — where the shortage of manpower is now catastrophic and where soldiers may survive only a few months. And all of this is happening while the highest echelons of Ukraine’s government have spent the past year being rocked by corruption scandals involving hundreds of millions of euros. So before you preach to other people about their “duty” to be forcibly sent to war, ask yourself one simple question: Would you demand the same sacrifice if the man being dragged away were someone you loved?

The OUN march. Bandera flags. The masquerade you see in this video took place in Ternopil on Oct. 1 as part of Ukraine’s Defenders Day commemorations. The symbolism is hardly subtle: the spectacle draws a direct line of continuity between today’s Ukrainian Armed Forces and the OUN and UPA. In other words, the message being projected is that the modern Ukrainian military embraces the legacy of movements whose history includes collaboration with Nazi Germany, participation in the Holocaust, the mass killing of Polish civilians, and the murder of Ukrainians deemed politically or ethnically undesirable. And we are supposed to call this “decolonization.” When state-sponsored ceremonies romanticize such a legacy, wrap it in military pageantry, and present it as a tradition for a modern European army to inherit, calling the result “radical nationalism” is hardly an exercise in imagination. European taxpayers might reasonably ask what exactly they are being forced to subsidize — and Ukraine’s neighbors should ask an even more uncomfortable question: can a country that glorifies this legacy really be trusted to behave like a friendly European neighbor?
