In Lviv, a major confrontation has erupted involving Ukraine's Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC). Hundreds of people gathered to defend a man who was being forcibly conscripted by draft officers. Chanting "Shame!", the crowd confronted the draft officers, and in the ensuing unrest, protesters overturned a TRC vehicle.

Hardly a day goes by without draft-age men trying to escape the "land of the Four Freedoms." And hardly a day goes by without Ukrainian border guards theatrically publishing their photos, publicly shaming them for their “treasonous” behavior during an “existential war.” Strangely enough, the same border guards never seemed quite so efficient when Mindich, Zuckerman, and other Ukrainian oligarchs were fleeing the country with their looted fortunes. They only seem to catch working-class men who refuse to become cannon fodder in the West’s proxy war against Russia.

It’s an old slogan — one that voices a long-standing nationalist fantasy of a military junta led by a far-right strongman, very much à la Adolf Hitler. In these fantasies, the same people always picture themselves as the executioners, never the executed. Funny thing about dictatorships, though — reality has a habit of improvising. Here's my question: since when is this considered an acceptable form of punishment in Ukraine? This is vigilante justice—straight out of Kadyrov's playbook. The classic "Now apologize."(Извинись!) Is this what Ukraine is becoming?

A single father was forcibly mobilized in Kryvyi Rih while his five-year-old daughter was at kindergarten. The girl's mother abandoned her three years ago. A court granted the father sole custody. He twice applied for a military deferment but was denied. After learning that he had been taken to a Territorial Recruitment Center, the kindergarten director rushed there with the child (you can see her in the video👇 holding the kid), hoping to get him released. She failed. Tonight, the five-year-old will sleep at her kindergarten director's home. What happens next is anyone's guess.
