Anton Daniels argued many Black job applicants couldn’t get hired because they failed drug tests… Tharon Johnson disagreed. Anton Daniels: I work with automakers here in Metro Detroit. Chrysler opened a new plant. Ford went on a hiring spree. The main reason most people couldn’t get those jobs… overwhelmingly Black people who applied is because they couldn’t pass the drug test. Stephen A. Smith: But how prevalent is that, Anton? You can find those cases, but to give the impression that’s the vast majority is where the problem occurs. Tharon Johnson: Anton, let’s go back to Detroit. You can’t tell me people aren’t benefiting from having Mary Sheffield in office. She earned it. She ran against the establishment. Tharon Johnson: But I agree with Stephen A. Let’s not put this on Black folks. Hispanics fail drug tests. Asians fail. White people fail too. We can’t isolate that to just the Black community. Anton Daniels: You’re moving the goalposts because the question was specifically about the Black community. We’re not talking about Asians or white people. We’re talking about taking self-accountability. Stephen A. Smith: I did ask the question specifically about the Black community. He’s right about that. Go ahead. Anton Daniels: I’m not going to lean on somebody else to justify why we are or aren’t doing better. Anton Daniels: I’m not going to criticize Mary Sheffield because she just got into office. She deserves a chance. Anton Daniels: But we also can’t ignore the leaders who came before her and the decisions that led Detroit to bankruptcy. Anton Daniels: At some point, you have to stop voting based on identity and start voting for the person who’s best for the job.

I think it’s because you haven’t gone.”

Everyone says FIFA favors Messi… Joe says it’s actually Ronaldo. Trevor: This tournament has a lot of people feeling like it’s scripted. Trevor: There are many people who feel like Argentina and Lionel Messi are the darlings of FIFA… and Infantino does everything in his power to make sure they have an easy path in the tournament. Trevor: Wow. Joe: Ronaldo got a red card before the World Cup. He was supposed to have an automatic three-match ban. Joe: But what did FIFA do? They gave him one match and suspended the other two. Trevor: You’re right. We’ve never had a suspended sentence in football. Cristiano Ronaldo is the first recipient. Joe: Imagine if Messi had received that preferential treatment.

Officer Tatum challenges Gary Chambers to name one thing Democrats have done for Black Americans. Officer Tatum: Mr. Chambers cannot mention one thing that Democrats have done for the Black community. I’ll mention a few things Donald Trump has. And I’ll wait for him to start. Stephen A. Gary Chambers: When you talk about majority Black cities, conservatives have always run the government that approves the spending. Gary Chambers: We make up 56% of the city, but we don’t have a majority on the council because of gerrymandering and racialized voting. Gary Chambers: The East Baton Rouge Parish school system is 80% Black, but we have a majority white Republican school board because the legislature continues to deny Black people fair representation. Gary Chambers: So when you talk about these things, you chuckle because you don’t have anything to go against these facts. Officer Tatum: Here you go. You just said your daughter goes to a public school in that parish. Gary Chambers: Public schools. Officer Tatum: You said your daughter is doing well in those public schools. Stephen A. Smith: Hold on, guys. Nobody’s getting cut off here. You can listen to each other. Go ahead, Officer Tatum. Officer Tatum: So make your mind up. Are the white Republicans doing negative things that’s causing your daughter to go to a bad school… or does your daughter go to a very successful school in the parish you’re talking about that’s run by white Republicans?
