Miriam Margolyes recalls why she never forgave John Cleese and Graham Chapman “Women weren’t allowed to join Footlights in the days when I was there.” “They stopped speaking to me off stage, so that is called being sent to Coventry.” “It wounded me terribly. And I wasn’t invited to the cast party.” “I’ve never really forgiven them.” “They lacked that thing, which is the human part of the gene.” “I’m glad he’s old and unfunny.”

Danny McBride says becoming a father changed what he wanted his kids’ childhood to look like. “Once I had kids, I just knew that there were going to be certain things that they wouldn’t be exposed to that I just thought would be useful for them to be exposed to.” “We were sitting in this bar just having a drink, kind of like writing down on a napkin the pluses and minuses.” “There was like a group of probably 10 kids, probably between the ages of 7 and 15 on skateboards and bikes and jean shorts, no shirts, carrying fishing poles, not a parent in sight.” “I was like, ‘Yeah, we got to move here.’” “I want them to be able to be free to kind of explore the world and to see things without having to worry about them so much.”

Mike Tyson: No. Me and my wife were going through a divorce, but we were still fucking. Every night we were still fucking, then we fighting in the paper, then we fucking at night. Theo Von: Okay. Mike Tyson: One day, I went over her house to fuck and she wasn’t home. Then she’s driving up the road with a BMW I bought her, and she had someone with her. I thought it was some kind of a friend from Head of the Class, but it wasn’t. It was Brad Pitt trying to get some head. Theo Von: No way! Mike Tyson: Yeah. Theo Von: That honky was with her? Mike Tyson: Yeah! Theo Von: But you caught him in the driveway? Mike Tyson: Yeah. Theo Von: Did you punk him a little? Mike Tyson: No. Theo Von: At least if your girl’s going to be with somebody, if it’s Brad Pitt… that’s okay. Mike Tyson: But he wasn’t Brad Pitt yet. Theo Von: Oh, he wasn’t Brad Pitt yet? Mike Tyson: I didn’t know who the fuck he was. He didn’t even have a car.

A father left his son more than $10 million. He left his two daughters nothing. Now they’re asking their brother to pay off their $300,000 in student loans. Caller: “My father left everything to me… his house, his investments, his business. He didn’t give anything to my sisters.” George Kamel: “He purposefully didn’t leave any money to your sisters?” Caller: “Yes.” George Kamel: “And now they’re resentful because they feel like they deserve a portion of this money.” Caller: “It seems like it.” Jade Warshaw: “Why did he cut them off?” Caller: “My mother had an affair. My sisters sided with my mother because they liked the affair partner more. I sided with my father.” George Kamel: “I think you’re going to be resentful if you give this money. I’d rather them be resentful towards you than you be resentful towards them.” “There’s no easy answer here.” “They’re going to hate you.”

Sunny Sandler reveals Adam Sandler’s weirdest habit Jimmy Fallon: Now, you know your dad is one of my idols, Adam Sandler. I auditioned for Saturday Night Live. I did an impression of your dad. Sunny Sandler: Stop it. Jimmy Fallon: Does that sound like your dad to you? Sunny Sandler: Yeah. Jimmy Fallon: Do you have an impression of him or no? Sunny Sandler: I don’t really do an impression of him, but my mom tells a story from when I was younger. Me and my sister, we dressed up in his clothes. Jimmy Fallon: Like shorts and big shirts? Sunny Sandler: The shorts, we held Diet Cokes and yelled about the air conditioning being off. And then we jumped in the pool with our socks on because he wears his socks in the pool because he can’t bend to take them off on land. Jimmy Fallon: That is not true at all. He is the funniest dude ever. Sunny Sandler: I swear it’s true. Jimmy Fallon: So he jumps in the pool with his socks and then floats his feet up to take them off? Sunny Sandler: Yes, and then he’ll drain them and then you play catch with them.

Andrew Gold and Vanessa Feltz clash over gender identity, pronouns, and whether someone who transitions should be considered a woman. Andrew Gold: “It’s false and it’s a lie.” Vanessa Feltz: “Why is it wrong?” Andrew Gold: “Because they’re not women.” Vanessa Feltz: “What does that even mean that they’re not women?” Andrew Gold: “Because they’re not women. You know that.” Vanessa Feltz: “Well, what are they? If they’ve had the operation and they have fully transitioned?” Andrew Gold: “They’re men who’ve cut off their penises.” Vanessa Feltz: “Well, that’s a whole different subject.” Andrew Gold: “How is that a whole different subject?” Vanessa Feltz: “To make you use any pronouns, use their name. Don’t use it. Don’t use a pronoun that is unacceptable. Don’t use it at all. Call them something. If you have to refer to them, call them by their name. How about that?” Andrew Gold: “Well, I can talk as well. Let me talk as well. Can I talk as well?” Vanessa Feltz: “You’re talking plenty.” “Also, you’re a very nice fellow and you’re just being nasty just for the sake of it.”

Billy Strings tells Theo Von that quitting weed had been on his mind for a while, but two moments finally forced him to confront how dependent he had become. The first happened when he was simply leaving to buy groceries. He realized he couldn’t even imagine going 20 minutes without smoking. But the moment that actually made him quit came when his young son got sick. After spending days sick, his son seemed to be doing better, so Billy went upstairs to work on music. “Of course, I’m hitting my pen, you know, and I’m working on music and playing on Pro Tools and shit.” When he came back downstairs, his son’s condition had suddenly gotten much worse. “My son had gotten worse. Like, he was like lethargic. Like, we couldn’t even get his attention.” They rushed him to the hospital, and Billy says the guilt hit immediately. “My son is sick and I’m upstairs getting high.” “Man, I’m done with this shit.” “I smoked every day since I was like 11.” The moment he realized the habit wasn’t serving him anymore, he walked away from it.

50 Cent reveals Ghost was almost killed off years earlier in Power 50 Cent: I didn’t mind killing Kanan when the time came. It got awkward for the writer, for the showrunner, because she felt like it was registering as a 50 Cent show instead of her show. It also was friction between her and Omari, because he was feeling like he was the lead and the star of the show. Omari would’ve died, Ghost must die. He would’ve died when Kanan died, she planned to kill Omari’s character off right there. I’m like, “Nah.” I could feel how the general public was feeling, and I knew that was not the right decision. She said, “If he doesn’t die, something has to happen. Something big has to happen.” I’m like, “Me. Kill my character. I got other shit to do. I could go be 50 Cent, and then I don’t have to be here anymore.” Interviewer: Do you agree with them killing Ghost? 50 Cent: I wouldn’t have killed him, that shit could still be running if it was running right now. It was creatively a decision that she made because she was not feeling him no more.

Idris Elba says he was given one warning before auditioning for The Wire: don’t let them know you’re British. Trevor Noah: “I’ve seen people get shocked when they find out you’re not American.” Idris Elba: “I was unemployed, bro.” “I was living in New Jersey. I was bartending, working the door, DJing.” “Before you know it, you just start speaking like an American.” “Then my casting director said, ‘This thing has come up. It’s called The Wire.’” “‘But if you go in, you cannot let them know you aren’t American.’” “‘This is about Baltimore. It’s very specific.’” “So I auditioned for four weeks straight in an American accent.” “Then at the fourth audition, they looked at me and said…” “‘Idris… where are you from?’” Trevor Noah: “‘Where are you from?’ That’s the phrase every immigrant is terrified of hearing.” Idris Elba: “My palms started sweating.” “I’m thinking… they told you not to say anything.” “I looked at them and said…” “‘I’m from East London.’” “The room just exploded.” “‘Oh my God… we had a bet.’” “‘We knew you weren’t from Baltimore or Brooklyn, but we never guessed England.’” “‘You got the job.’” “‘We don’t want you to play Avon.” “We want you to play Stringer Bell.’” “I walked out thinking…” “‘Did my life just change?’”

Conan O’Brien reveals what happened when he took a DNA test Tom: So Conan, you are from the Boston area. And you are, I think, 100% Irish in your ancestry? Conan O’Brien: Yes. I had a genetic test several years ago, and the doctor gave me the result. He said, “You are… I don’t see this often. You are 100.00% Irish.” I thought this was a good thing because, you know, in university, 100% was a good thing. I said, “Isn’t this great news?” And he said, “No, you idiot, it means that you’re inbred.” Tom: It also means that if you are 100% Irish and you are from Boston, statistically, you are unlikely to be a fan of George III and Lord Cornwallis. Conan O’Brien: My father loved history. He instilled in me a love of history, and every April we’d go out to Lexington and Concord, retracing the footsteps of the retreating British. I grew up with all the mythos and pageantry and adoration for the Founding Fathers, and then, as you grow older, things get more complicated.

Tacarra Williams and Shannon Sharpe question whether people are chasing partners they can actually attract Tacarra argues that many women are competing for the same small pool of high earning men while overlooking men they could actually build with. “Are you the woman that he normally has access to? And if you’re not, he don’t even see you coming.” Shannon Sharpe breaks down how quickly the requirements can stack up: six figures, over six feet tall, educated, fit and successful. “All that that you want… is he looking? Does he want you?” Tacarra says social media has distorted people’s expectations of relationships and lifestyles. “There are some really good men out there who get passed by because all the women are searching for the same man.” “Some women would rather be women number five, than be with a man where they could be number one.”

Matthew McConaughey made his son audition without the McConaughey name He reveals that his son Levi plays his son in the film, while his own mother plays his mother. When Levi found out there was a role around his age, he asked his dad if he could audition. “Is he cast yet?” Matthew said no. “Can I read for it?” But Matthew made him come back four times before finally sitting him down and explaining what acting actually required. “There ain’t no attitude BS, this ain’t modeling. This is like you got to go with soul and no in your bones.” Levi auditioned, and Matthew immediately noticed something. “Kid can hold a frame. He can behave honestly. He’s comfortable with silences.” The audition impressed casting director Francine Maisler enough to send it to director Paul Greengrass. But Matthew didn’t want Levi’s famous last name affecting the decision. “What if he gets it? Is he going to have a little inkling that oh, my last name helped me get in there?” So they pulled his last name and sent the audition to Greengrass. He watched it and said: “That’s the kid.” Then he found out who Levi was. “That’s actually Matthew’s son.” Greengrass didn’t hesitate. “Even better.”

Jeremy Shockey reveals why he got a vasectomy at 21 after being drafted to the NFL Jeremy Shockey: I got a vasectomy at a young age. Like 21 years old when I got drafted. I had no kids. I didn’t want kids. Shannon Sharpe: You got a vasectomy at a young age? Jeremy Shockey: Yeah. When I played in the NFL, I didn’t want any kids. Shannon Sharpe: But you want kids now? Jeremy Shockey: Yeah. I reversed it. Jeremy Shockey: When I get home from work, I want to recover. I would sit in my hyperbaric chamber, get acupuncture, go to sleep, wake up, and do it again. I always thought, “How’s this person playing the same position as me, he’s got more catches than me, he’s married and he’s got three kids? I could never do that. I’m a very one-lane guy.” Shannon Sharpe: People are going to be watching this and say, “This man got a vasectomy at 20, 21 when he got drafted?” Jeremy Shockey: It’s a smart thing. You could save it. You could obviously reverse it. Shannon Sharpe: Did you talk to your mom? Jeremy Shockey: Yeah, of course. Shannon Sharpe: What’d your mom say? Jeremy Shockey: I told her, “I signed a contract with this team, but they could trade me next year. I don’t need any of this. I need to be like a horse with blinders.” She said, “Great decision, son. Save it in the sperm bank and you’ll be fine.” I only had so many days to play in the NFL. I don’t know where I was going to end up. To minimize that… football.

The Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden reveals what happened inside the room Adam Carolla: So, you got him, now you’re continually going up the stairs. And you were in what place in this line? Robert O’Neill: When we got to the second story, it split off to the left and right. The guy that had been up front, he’d already taken a shot up the third set and now he’s pointing up through a curtain. I recognize as the last man, he needs a two-man. So, I went up to him as a two-man, he starts pimping me with his body language. Like what he’s saying is, “There’s the suicide bombers. We can beat them, but the shitty news is we have to fucking go right now.” I remember looking down, and this is… this is not bravery right now. I’m tired of thinking about it. Get it over with. I squeezed him, we went up. We went through the curtain and he saw the two suicide bombers that he thought were there, and he jumped on them. Adam Carolla: How does he jump on them? Robert O’Neill: He just tackles them and grabs them. Admiral McRaven asked him, “You jumped on suicide bombers. Why would you do that?” He said, “Well, they want the guy behind me to get hurt.” Adam Carolla: Wow. Robert O’Neill: Because he did that, I turned to the right… And there’s Osama bin Laden standing there, his wife’s in front of him. They can put the leads from a vest down their robes onto their wrist, and all they got to do is touch them. Adam Carolla: Put their hands together. Robert O’Neill: And guess what? We’re all fucking dead. I see him, he’s maneuvering. Adam Carolla: What is he seeing? Robert O’Neill: Nothing. He knows there’s people there. The way you deal with suicide bombers is you shoot him in the face. So, I caught him. I shot him in the face twice and then the third time on the floor. Adam Carolla: But that’s bin Laden. Robert O’Neill: Yes. Adam Carolla: Now, you know it’s bin Laden. Robert O’Neill: Yes. Adam Carolla: Are the instructions to kill Bin Laden? Are the instructions to capture Bin Laden? Robert O’Neill: Knowing SEAL Team 6, we’re going to kill him. Right. That’s it. We’re going to fucking kill him.

Seth Rogen reveals what his weed dealer finally admitted Howard Stern: Why now would anyone go to some shady character and buy weed? Seth Rogen: One is loyalty. I was buying weed off these guys in L.A., and legal weed was coming into the market. I just felt bad for them. It’s like that mom-and-pop store that’s one purchase away from closing. Howard Stern: That’s a very good point. I didn’t think about that. Seth Rogen: That’s how it is with the weed dealers. You have a loyalty to them. You don’t want to see them go under or have to find a new line of work. So, yes, I had loyalty to the guys I bought weed with, and I felt bad for abandoning them. Howard Stern: And you still will call them from time to time? Seth Rogen: No! I haven’t seen them in over a decade. Eventually you’re like, “Come on, it’s legal! Why am I meeting a guy on a corner and driving around the block?” It’s like buying cheese from a guy on the street. There’s no need to put myself through this anymore. Howard Stern: How long did you stick with your dealer after weed became legal? Seth Rogen: Eventually I asked him, “Where do you get this weed?” And the guy said, “Honestly, we just get it at the store, also.” Howard Stern: Your weed dealer went to the store where he bought it legally and sold it to you illegally… and raised the price! Seth Rogen: Yeah, just a slight markup! And when he said it, I could tell he was like, “Oh no, I shouldn’t be saying this.” I could literally see on his face he was like, “I just let the cat out of the bag on that one!”

Tom Holland says there are only a few movie roles that should never be recast. Tom Holland: GOAT superhero? Matt Damon: Oof. Tom Holland: Why are you taking so long to answer this, mate? Matt Damon: I’d have to say Spider-Man. That was the one I used to dress up as all the time as a kid. Matt Damon: There’s been a parade of excellent actors in that role… and then you took it. Tom Holland: And it went to shit. Matt Damon: … Tom Holland: I’m kidding. I would have to agree. Matt Damon: Omari’s going to be really mad at us because we’re not arguing. Tom Holland: We are not arguing at all. Host: Instead of Spider-Man, what else would you pick? Tom Holland: For me, it would have to be Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. Matt Damon: I was just going to say that because he’s funny, and he looks like a guy you could hang out with. Tom Holland: There are only a few characters where it feels like… just leave them be. Tom Holland: You, Downey, and Hugh Jackman. Tom Holland: No one wants to play Jason Bourne. No one wants to play Iron Man. No one wants to play Wolverine. Tom Holland: I’ve been the third person to play Spider-Man. There’s been lots of Batmans, lots of Supermans… but there are only a few characters where it feels like, just leave them be. Matt Damon: Oh wow. That’s awesome. Thank you very much.

Caleb Hammer says Dave Ramsey’s $1,000 emergency fund rule is outdated. Codie Sanchez: What do you disagree with Dave Ramsey on? Caleb Hammer: Overall, I think Dave Ramsey has helped millions of Americans. His positive impact has been far greater than the negative. Caleb Hammer: But sticking to a $1,000 emergency fund today is kind of crazy. Caleb Hammer: If you just adjusted it for inflation, it’d be around $3,000 now. Caleb Hammer: I’ve had people follow the $1,000 rule, then an emergency happened… Caleb Hammer: It wasn’t enough, so they went right back into debt and made the debt snowball even worse. Caleb Hammer: That’s why I recommend saving at least one month’s expenses before aggressively paying off debt. Caleb Hammer: Or at the very least, have enough to cover your highest insurance deductible. Caleb Hammer: That’s how you stop one emergency from turning into a financial disaster.

Matthew Rhys says falling in love with Keri Russell while filming The Americans was something he never expected to happen again after a previous relationship with a co-star ended badly. “I remember at the time going, ‘Oh, no.’ Because I wouldn’t advise it.” But despite trying to avoid it, Rhys says he couldn’t fight what was happening. “And then kind of in my mid-30s, The Americans happens, and I was like, ‘Oh, no. This is happening again.’” Their relationship eventually became intertwined with their work, and Rhys admits it made filming difficult at times. “Wildly tricky.” “Sometimes when we would argue, I’d bring that into the scene and the director’s like, ‘What’s going on? You meant to be getting on really well.’” Despite all the complications, Rhys says he’d happily work with her again. “100%.”

The wife of former President Barack Obama says she had to fight for her family because the White House wasn’t built with wives and children in mind. Ben Affleck admits Chasing Amy forced him to confront his own internalized homophobia Interviewer: Chasing Amy. How do you feel like this film has aged? Ben Affleck: At the time, what I thought was interesting about it was that it alluded to a spectrum of sexual orientation. It looked at what a love relationship between men looks like. We have friendships with men that we love very much, and it was a way of looking at whether there’s a continuum or spectrum. I thought that was kind of honest. Frankly, I found myself having to challenge my own internalized homophobia because I found it so difficult to kiss Jason. I thought, “This is really embarrassing. This is clearly some internalized thing because why should that be a difficult thing to do for me?” I still think I did a shitty and unconvincing job of it, and I feel very disappointed by that. I’d love the chance to do better, although now I’m not sure the idea of playing a gay character would be welcome. I don’t want to offend anyone in this direction. It was a movie that, at the time, felt like it was pushing some boundaries. And in retrospect, as often happens, the world has evolved.
