The federal government’s attempt to vilify our Somali neighbors is a dangerous attempt to sew division amongst our community. We will not let that happen. Minnesotans stand together. We will not bend to those who want us to fear and hate our neighbors. Not now. Not ever.

Christian Castro is accused of shooting Julio Sosa-Celis in the leg on January 14th. The only thing stopping Mr. Castro from facing the appropriate charges is a signature from Texas Governor Greg Abbott. I encourage Governor Abbott to sign the paperwork today.

Tomorrow, we will go to federal court to continue to fight for all evidence to be preserved for a full and transparent state investigation. I am not asking for patience. My office is working around the clock on multiple incidents regarding federal agents' use-of-force.

Crime statistics are not helpful to individual victims of crime, but they are indicators to let us know what's working. Our office has worked hard to shift the paradigm of public safety to be more fair, just, and restorative. These statistics let us know we're on the right path.

Our local jails are pre-trial facilities. That means that the people being held there have not yet been convicted of a crime. When ICE takes people away before they have been convicted of a crime, they are preventing victims and witnesses from their opportunity to seek justice.
