Supersonic. Mach 1.21. Quarterhorse Mk 2.1 is now the world’s first privately developed, unmanned supersonic jet and the fastest unmanned aircraft flying today. This flight makes Hermeus the fastest company in aviation history to go from founding to supersonic flight - exactly 364 days after the maiden flight of our first aircraft. Now, we fly faster. A special thanks to Defense Innovation Unit, Director Owen West, Maj. Gen. Joe "Solo" Kunkel, and Deputy Director Kyle Norman.

Nine months, two distinct new aircraft. Last week, Quarterhorse 2.1 cleared the runway in the New Mexico desert. Building at this pace and scale is the result of many minds refusing to accept slow as an answer. One step closer to the high-speed capability our country has waited for. Now, we go supersonic.

Meet Quarterhorse Mk 2.1: an F-16-sized jet built to break the sound barrier. It’s the first of three jets in the Mk 2 lineup. Instead of waiting years between tests, we build and fly them in rapid succession. Real data from one flight feeds directly into the next, letting us steadily push the limits of speed and performance. Mk 2.1 will fly supersonic. Mk 2.2 will go even faster. Subsequent phases like 2.3 will continue to push toward Hermeus’ end goal of unlocking sustained ramjet-powered flight and delivering operational hypersonic capability for the United States — this decade. Step by step, this is how Hermeus builds the world’s fastest aircraft.

The HEAT is on! We have officially brought our new High Enthalpy Air-Breathing Test Facility (HEAT) online with a series of successful tests of the Pratt & Whitney F100 engine. HEAT will serve as an asset for military and commercial engine testing, boosting the efficiency and affordability of supersonic and hypersonic test infrastructure.

Just two months after engine integration, we’ve integrated the tail and wings on our Quarterhorse Mk 2 vehicle. The curvature of Mk 2's wings helps control shock formation across the wing and its control surfaces, stabilizing the aircraft's transition into supersonic. The tail, assembled at our LA facility, is tuned for stability and controllability at high and low speeds alike. The build continues... fast planes fast.

ICYMI: Quarterhorse Mk 2.1 is airborne. Nine months after flying our last aircraft, we already built and flew another — proving how fast this team can build, test, and fly high-speed aircraft. The work has just begun. With first flight complete, the campaign continues toward supersonic. Stay tuned.

Fresh look at our @prattandwhitney F100 testing at HEAT – this engine will power our supersonic aircraft, Quarterhorse Mk 2. We’ll continue to increase both capacity and capability at our HEAT facility with future phases introducing continuous high-Mach vitiated airflow to enable more flight-like supersonic and hypersonic testing conditions on the ground.

We're not just building the planes fast, we're building the infrastructure fast. Our team has stood up deployed operations at Spaceport America, transforming a blank slate into a disciplined flight-test complex, including a 6,000-square-foot custom hangar for Quarterhorse Mk 2.1 that was built in less than a week.

2023 was another year of major growth and critical milestones at Hermeus. We completed wind tunnel testing of Quarterhorse, received our first two F100 engines, signed a multi-year contract with the Defense Innovation Unit, built our first fully-integrated vehicle, and then completed its deployed test campaign in just 37 days. Next up is flight. Quarterhorse Mk 1 is actively being built in the factory. Meanwhile, the propulsion team is hard at work on both Chimera and Chimera II development. Hypersonic aircraft will solve critical national security challenges and ultimately change the world forever by connecting people faster than ever before. What we're building is massively impactful, urgently needed, and incredibly hard. That's what makes this endeavor so special.
