I hope Burnham does get rough sleeping down. But he's up against his own record, and ours in Ireland. We've thrown the kitchen sink of resources at it, and the number of rough sleepers in Dublin sticks mostly in a range of 100-150 people on any given night. 136 people at the last count in April 2026. Conor Skehan notes in this timeless TonightVMTV clip (a few years old now) that 23 homeless charities operate in Dublin with ~900 full time equivalents on payroll. That's many times the number of rough sleepers. Accepting that rough sleeping will always be with us isn't the answer either, but promising to "end" rough sleeping is doomed to fail.
