I complain about Spain a lot High taxes. Bureaucracy. The mindset that keeps people trapped in expensive cities But let me be honest: Spain is objectively one of the best countries in the world ✅ The food is unmatched Jamón ibérico, patatas bravas, fresh seafood that costs €3. The culture around eating is actually about enjoying life ✅ The people are warm and real Spaniards will tell you the truth, even if it hurts. They're not performative like Silicon Valley types. They actually live instead of optimize for social media ✅ The weather is insane 300+ days of sun. You can be at the beach or mountains within 2 hours from most places. Winter means 15°C and sunshine, not freezing darkness. It honestly spoiled me for almost anywhere else ✅ The cities are architectural masterpieces Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Valencia, San Sebastián. Most countries would kill to have ONE city as beautiful as any of these ✅ The variety of environments is crazy Mediterranean beaches, Pyrenees mountains, Basque Country forests, desert-like regions in the south, wine regions. Everything in one small country My issue with Spain isn't Spain itself It's the system that makes people choose between: - Staying and being trapped in an expensive coastal city working for €1,200/month - Leaving everything behind to find opportunity elsewhere If you can escape the Spanish employment trap (remote work, entrepreneurship, location independence), Spain becomes one of the best places to live on Earth

These guys sold their house in Catalonia 🇪🇸 and moved permanently to Paraguay 🇵🇾 I just came back from a road trip with Destino Paraguay, a Spanish/Argentinian couple who were living in Catalonia and decided to get the f*ck out of there You have NO IDEA how many Spaniards are moving to other countries, particularly Catalans and Andalusians Foreigners always talk about how nice those two regions are, but it’s only because of two reasons: - They didn’t see them 10 years ago, so they’re not aware of the decline - They have unlimited money compared to the natives, so they’re protected from the worst changes

🇪🇸🇲🇽🇨🇺🇦🇷🇨🇱🇵🇾 Spanish has more accent variation than English 🇨🇱 Chileans speak the hardest Spanish in the world. Even other Latinos admit it 🇪🇸 Spaniards from Andalusia are a close second 🇨🇺🇩🇴 Caribbeans drop half their letters 🇦🇷 Argentines turn Y into "sh" 🇵🇾 Paraguayans don't even bother; they switch to Guaraní mid-sentence Spanish isn't one language. It's a continent of accents pretending to share one

Florianopolis 🇧🇷 is the coolest spot in South America There, I said it The island has captured my heart over the last few days: ✅ EXTREMELY safe. Way safer than most cities in Spain, for example ✅ Great beaches, not crowded at all ✅ Any kind of sports you can think of. Surfing, sandboarding, kitesurfing in the lake, padel... ✅ Cool events (was invited to a talk by Founder Haus; couldn't make it this time, but love seeing this ✅ Direct flights to a lot of different places ✅ Not hot in summer, and apparently not too cold in winter ✅ Good infrastructure (although you need a bike/car) Really really nice. I can see myself spending one/two months per year here

Colombian 🇨🇴 beaches are a scam I went to Santa Marta expecting Valencia or Benidorm 🇪🇸... And instead I got dirty sand, zero infrastructure, and a vendor harassing me every 5 seconds trying to sell me fruit I didn't ask for Sorry but someone had to say it You need to go to places like Tayrona (which IS great), Playa Blanca or Bahía Concha to have a good experience The ACTUAL beach cities of Latin America: 🇧🇷 Rio de Janeiro: iconic for a reason 🇧🇷 Floripa / Balneário Camboriú: Europe-level development 🇺🇾 Punta del Este: clean, organized, world-class 🇦🇷 Mar del Plata: unpretentious and genuinely good Colombia is great for many things Beaches? Not even close

🇦🇷🇺🇾🇨🇱🇵🇾 Do all Southern Cone people look alike? Of course not. The genetic mix in each country tells a very different story, and most people get it wrong 🇺🇾 Uruguayans: ~80% European 🇦🇷 Argentines: ~65% European, but it shifts hard by region 🇨🇱 Chileans: 55% European, 40% Native (mostly Mapuche) 🇵🇾 Paraguayans: 60% Guaraní, 35% European. The only country in the Americas where the indigenous language is spoken by the majority The Southern Cone isn’t one thing. It’s four very different countries pretending to be neighbors

My friend just shared her survival story leaving Spain Built a weekend rental business. Created jobs. Paid every tax imaginable The system still treated her like a criminal €400/month self-employed fee whether he earned or not. Taxes on occupied days AND empty days. Then squatter laws made her fear losing everything he built So... she sold his dream home just to protect it High costs, frozen salaries, laws that punish contributors and protect freeloaders... That's what Europe has to offer right now Geographic arbitrage is the rational response to an unviable system

I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on a SECOND flat in Asuncion 🇵🇾 They’re building a HUGE artificial beach in a gated community a few minutes away from the city… and man does it look appealing With crypto being the way it is right now, I’m tempted to just park some of my money there and have access to water in the Paraguayan summer

I love Paraguay 🇵🇾 Love the people, the food, the pace, the fact that nobody's in your business But let's be honest about what it is and isn't ❌ It has no world-class cities ❌ It's not going to impress anyone back home ❌ The infrastructure is rough ❌ The bureaucracy is slower than it should be ❌ Some days you wonder why you picked this over somewhere shinier And yet I keep coming back Because it's one of the last places where you can actually be free. Low taxes, low cost, easy residency, and a government that mostly leaves you alone Most countries that are "nice" are also slowly squeezing you. Paraguay just lets you live I'll take that over a good airport anytime
