US policymakers must grasp Somali clan dynamics. Without this context, you risk making policy blindly and causing unintended harm in a society whose influence stretches well beyond Somalia’s borders. Here is the former US Amb. A missed opportunity by the president. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Given the historic nature of PM’s to trip to LA, he should have known he will be asked this question and the answer should have been far more sophisticated. The moment called for a STRONG, confident stance, one that emphasized our unwavering commitment to SOVEREIGNTY and territorial integrity. President could have used well known examples, such as how Türkiye handles separatist movements like PKK, to put our position into perspective and counter the narrative of the secessionist enclave in Hargeisa. Unfortunately, president’s response lacked CLARITY and CONVICTION, exposing a serious gap in preparation. This underscores the vital importance of surrounding oneself with capable, strategic advisors who ensure you come across as INFORMED, CONFIDENT, and aligned with the national interest. Leadership demands more than present. It requires preparation. Something our leaders don’t seem to care to master.

The ONLY anti-terror war in Somalia is in JL/PL. Pres. Deni has shown incredible commitment/leadership to eliminating IS from Somalia. In contrast, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud & Villa Somalia remain consumed with political maneuvering/election rigging while AS remains an imminent threat holding key towns near and around the capital.
