I donโt know exactly what it was about this eagle mama, Jackie. ๐ฆ ๐ Maybe because I started watching her during the pandemic, when we were all looking for small windows into the world outside. My kids used to tease me for leaving the Nest cam on 24/7, hearing her calls echo through the house. Me goofily screaming โLook, Shadow brought home a big fishโ Maybe itโs because Iโm a mama of four and understand that instinct to protect your babies with everything youโve got. Whatever it was, I fell in love with Jackie. She was regal, fierce, and deeply devoted. I watched her through so many cycles: eggs laid and lost, predators striking, heartbreak, and still she kept coming back to try again. I saw eaglets hatch, grow strong, and take their first flights, and through it all, Jackie just kept showing up. With her life partner Shadow they built their nest, and weathered everything from Big Bear storms to even the Fourth of July fireworks. Together, they were something truly special. Iโve always loved eagles, but the Big Bear Valley nest cam made me understand just how incredible they are. Jackie made millions of us care about one nest in a tree like it was our own backyard. I hate that we lost her like this. ๐ My heart breaks for Shadow and the life he now has to navigate without her. Jackie, you magnificent mama, you were loved by people all over the world. Thank you for letting us into your wild, beautiful life. I never thought Iโd be eulogizing a daggone eagle. ๐ญ๐ฆ But here we are. Fly high, Jackie. You were one special mama. ๐ค

He was only 20 years old a Haitian honors student, soccer player, JROTC lieutenant and aspiring doctor who came to America to learn, serve and build a future. He was not a criminal. But Donald Trumpโs cruel, anti-Haitian immigration policies stripped away his protected status, and ICE placed a dehumanizing ankle monitor around his leg as if he were dangerous. That monitor became a public brand of suspicion and shame. Pierre was ridiculed, excluded and humiliated. He pleaded to have it removed. He told us exactly what it was doing to his spirit. And still, no one in power showed him mercy. Letโs be clear: Donald Trump and his administration created the conditions that broke this young manโs soul. They took a promising young person who wanted to become a doctor and made him feel hunted, degraded and less than human โฆuntil his pain became unbearable. Treating human beings with dignity is not politics. It is morality. Pierre was somebodyโs beloved son. His life mattered. His dreams mattered. And he should still be here. Say his name: Pierre Damas Bel. ๐ญ๐น May God hold his devastated family close and may Pierreโs death haunt the conscience of every person responsible for this cruel policy.

๐๐๐ฝTwenty-six years ago, when we received RJโs autism diagnosis, the world looked very different. Very few public figures athletes, entertainers, or anyone with a platform, were talking openly about #autism. There was so much fear, stigma, and silence. Even Rodney will tell you he wasnโt sure we should share RJโs diagnosis. Like so many parents, he worried that a label would define our son. But I believed that if we were willing to tell our story, another family might feel less alone. They might seek support sooner. They might let go of the shame that so many cultures and communities still attach to a diagnosis. That decision changed our lives. So seeing Teoscar and Jennifer share little Teoโs autism journey so openly touched me deeply. It takes tremendous courage to invite the world into such a personal chapter of your familyโs life. But moments like this matter. Representation matters. Honesty matters. And every family that chooses to speak up helps another family breathe a little easier. Iโve always said, โI wouldnโt change RJ for the world, but I would change the world for RJ.โ By sharing Teoโs story, the Hernรกndez family is helping change the world and not just for their son, but for countless children and families who now feel seen, understood, and a little less afraid.
