I don’t know exactly what it was about this eagle mama, Jackie. 🦅💔 Maybe because I started watching her during the pandemic, when we were all looking for small windows into the world outside. My kids used to tease me for leaving the Nest cam on 24/7, hearing her calls echo through the house. Me goofily screaming “Look, Shadow brought home a big fish” Maybe it’s because I’m a mama of four and understand that instinct to protect your babies with everything you’ve got. Whatever it was, I fell in love with Jackie. She was regal, fierce, and deeply devoted. I watched her through so many cycles: eggs laid and lost, predators striking, heartbreak, and still she kept coming back to try again. I saw eaglets hatch, grow strong, and take their first flights, and through it all, Jackie just kept showing up. With her life partner Shadow they built their nest, and weathered everything from Big Bear storms to even the Fourth of July fireworks. Together, they were something truly special. I’ve always loved eagles, but the Big Bear Valley nest cam made me understand just how incredible they are. Jackie made millions of us care about one nest in a tree like it was our own backyard. I hate that we lost her like this. 💔 My heart breaks for Shadow and the life he now has to navigate without her. Jackie, you magnificent mama, you were loved by people all over the world. Thank you for letting us into your wild, beautiful life. I never thought I’d be eulogizing a daggone eagle. 😭🦅 But here we are. Fly high, Jackie. You were one special mama. 🤍

I was so glad that the cameras caught this honest conversation. 💙🙏🏽Twenty-six years ago, when we received RJ’s autism diagnosis, the world looked very different. Very few public figures athletes, entertainers, or anyone with a platform, were talking openly about #autism. There was so much fear, stigma, and silence. Even Rodney will tell you he wasn’t sure we should share RJ’s diagnosis. Like so many parents, he worried that a label would define our son. But I believed that if we were willing to tell our story, another family might feel less alone. They might seek support sooner. They might let go of the shame that so many cultures and communities still attach to a diagnosis. That decision changed our lives. So seeing Teoscar and Jennifer share little Teo’s autism journey so openly touched me deeply. It takes tremendous courage to invite the world into such a personal chapter of your family’s life. But moments like this matter. Representation matters. Honesty matters. And every family that chooses to speak up helps another family breathe a little easier. I’ve always said, “I wouldn’t change RJ for the world, but I would change the world for RJ.” By sharing Teo’s story, the Hernández family is helping change the world and not just for their son, but for countless children and families who now feel seen, understood, and a little less afraid. Jennifer and Teoscar, thank you for your vulnerability, your love, and your advocacy. You already know our family is here for yours, every step of the way. Stay prayerful, proactive & protective. And advocate advocate advocate! I am just broken up over this poor young man losing his life! As a mom of a Black son with #autism I have ALWAYS worried about this. When RJ was 15 he had a scary emotional meltdown in public —Someone wanted to call the police and if that happened the chances of him ending up like Ryan were extremely high. Fortunately, that night we were able to calm him down and get him in the car to get him safely home. We must figure this out. If police are not able to de-escalate in these domestic situations then we need mental health professionals to come on these calls!!! THIS CAN’T HAPPEN ANYMORE!! 💔💔💔#RyanGainer 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
