A version of SB3 has just been passed through the Texas House. The bill will still need to be signed by the governor before becoming law, but we expect that it will be signed. We’re currently making moves to file a lawsuit against the state immediately. Texas Lt. Gov Dan Patrick was just called out for his connections to private investors in the Texas Medical Marijuana Program! In an article published by the Texas scorecard, Lt. Gov Dan Patrick’s ties to lobbying group Blackmore were exposed, showing financial backers include companies invested in the TCUP (Texas Compassionate Use Program). These companies would financially benefit from a monopoly on the cannabis market in the state, but only if hemp was taken off the table. With the Lt. Gov even going as far to say that the medical marijuana expansion (HB46) was “worthless” without hemp derived THC being banned in Texas! “This reaction confirmed that Patrick’s THC Policy was designed not for public health, but to create market advantage for specific licensed operators”

It’s been reported that the U.S. Hemp Roundtable is trying to carve out an exception for low milligram beverages in the federal hemp ban. We’ve seen similar things from beverage manufacturers in Texas, who also tried to cut a similar deal in the midst of SB3 this past year. One thing is clear, that you need to be absolutely sure about who your advocacy group really represents in this battle!

The Lt. Gov Dan Patrick just held a press conference on SB3 being vetoed where he slandered, not just our industry, but the business owners in our community. He claimed that we were terrorists, or money laundering for terrorists, and he also continued to make unsupported claims that our industry was “unregulated” and “dangerous” and that he would be pursuing a full ban in this special session. The Senate passed a funding bill yesterday to reopen the government, but included in that funding bill was language that bans all hemp derived products currently on the market. This funding bill is likely to pass, and when it does, our industry will have 365 days to try and prevent the ban from going into effect. We’ll have more updates coming soon, and we’ll continue working on the behalf of the millions of people in this community who rely on these products daily!

SB3 has passed the second reading in the Texas House, but can it still be stopped? Yes, there are 2 possible paths forward to stop SB3: A veto by the governor or an injunction granted via lawsuit. 🚨Governor Abbott just issued an executive order regulating the hemp industry in Texas! This executive order bans hemps sales for those under 21, as well as instituting new guidelines for testing and packaging amongst other things.
