As we celebrate Africa Day, yesterday at the wedding of our children, Taonanyasha Tagwirei and Poneso Janda, where I also met Malume Themba, I was reminded that life is bigger than our differences. People will never think alike or behave the same. We differ in character and upbringing, but true maturity is being able to still shake hands, laugh together and show love despite it all. Some people may misunderstand you, judge you, spread false narratives or even wish for your downfall, but keep smiling and remain humble before them. In time, God will reveal His grace, favour and power upon your life right before their eyes. Love, dignity and respect will always speak louder than bitterness. Our culture of Ubuntu must never change — we are Africans. Happy Africa Day. “Zvimwe hazvizi necessary.” Thank you Jah Prayzah.

Today in Birmingham at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards Diaspora Investment & Skills Forum, I encouraged Zimbabwean youth abroad to prioritise investing back home and actively contribute towards national development. Zimbabwe’s greatest asset is its people. The skills, innovation, experience and investment of our diaspora can transform our nation, create jobs and build industries for future generations. This is the time to invest in Zimbabwe. This is the time to build Zimbabwe. No one will develop our country for us if we do not participate ourselves. I am grateful to Cabinet for approving the National Youth Policy (2026–2030), a bold framework that places young people at the centre of Zimbabwe’s development agenda. I am also pleased to advise that the Youth Bill is progressing well, with the Attorney General’s Office finalising the necessary processes before it proceeds to the Cabinet Committee on Legislation, Cabinet, and ultimately Parliament. The Policy tackles key challenges affecting our youth, including unemployment, drug and substance abuse, mental health, skills development, digital transformation, climate change, and youth participation. Together, we are laying a strong foundation for a future where every young Zimbabwean can thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.

As the Minister responsible for Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, I have come across videos showing the demolition of houses, and it is truly heartbreaking to see families crying in the streets after working so hard to provide shelter for their loved ones. I am concerned that the full social and human impact of these actions may not have been adequately considered. Decisions of this nature have far-reaching consequences and can easily overshadow the tremendous work being done by our Government under the leadership of His Excellency, President Dr. Emmerson D. Mnangagwa. As leaders, we must always be mindful that our actions reflect on the broader vision and reputation of our leadership. This is a sensitive matter, and at this stage, I am not fully informed of all the facts surrounding these demolitions. I will therefore engage the relevant authorities to better understand the circumstances involved and the processes that were followed. I have also noted with concern the growing activities of land barons who illegally sell land and settle unsuspecting citizens on unapproved developments. These criminal elements are causing immense suffering to families and contributing to situations such as the one we are witnessing today. They must be identified, arrested, and brought to justice to protect innocent citizens from losing their hard-earned investments. Regardless of political affiliation, the suffering of our people should concern us all. While the law must be respected and upheld, it must also be applied proactively and humanely. If developments are unlawful, intervention should take place before families invest their life savings and establish homes, not after they have settled and built their lives. It is painful to witness such scenes. Our duty as leaders is to protect our citizens, uphold the law with fairness and compassion, and safeguard the good reputation of the leadership and Government we serve. Let us always put the welfare and dignity of our people at the centre of our decisions.

Before attending the soccer match yesterday, I spent time in my constituency assessing the progress of several development projects that we agreed upon with our communities. I am pleased with the progress being made, including the completion of a mothers’ shelter at Makarara Clinic, the construction of a clinic at Matove in Chikomba, as well as school blocks and classroom facilities for ECD learners. These projects are improving access to essential services and creating a better future for our children and families. Zvishoma nezvishoma, tiri kuona budiriro ichisvika kuvanhu vedu. As we continue driving development, I encouraged fellow leaders and community members to embrace a spirit of inclusivity and collaboration. We must welcome all well-wishers who are willing and able to contribute towards improving the lives of our people. Ngatirege kuvhara mikova kune vanoda kubatsira nekuda kwekutyira zvigaro zvedu. Today, I held a highly productive meeting with the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Edward Kallon, to unlock and operationalize the USD 50 million pledge made during the launch of the National Youth Empowerment Strategy (2026–2030) by His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa. I am pleased to announce that following our engagement, UN agencies are now proposing to increase the support package to up to USD 80 million over the next four years a major breakthrough for youth empowerment in Zimbabwe. This is a strong vote of confidence in the vision of His Excellency and in the potential of Zimbabwe’s young people. The partnership with the United Nations continues to drive tangible progress in Skills Development, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Inclusion. This weekend, I had the privilege of officiating a transformative event in my constituency, where over 500 individuals graduated having been trained in a variety of essential skills, including detergent and juice production, tailoring, welding, mortuary services, and early childhood development education teacher training among others. To further support their journey toward success, I am proud to announce the donation of vehicles for driver training, ensuring that our community has the resources and convenience to gain the skills necessary for independence and growth. Skills development plays a pivotal role in building a sustainable future. As the saying goes, “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. The privileged of our generation must always live with compassion for the needy . The rich man would always dress in fine linen and lived in luxury while at his gate Lazarus begged for crumbs with dogs licking his sores. Later roles reversed and the rich man begged for just a drop of water on Lazarus’ fingertip. We worship God through service in our communities to the underprivileged, the needy and those on the periphery. Happy Workers Day Zimbabwe.

Minerals are exhaustible, non renewable, non replaceable natural endowments bequeathed to us by our forefathers . Whenever we exhaust mineral resources we ought to show indelible developments that we can pass on to future generations which justify our extractive actions. Anyone who conducts any mining activity on any square inch of our motherland must, without exception, make meaningful contribution to the development of the community and nation at large. We owe it to posterity to ensure that mining is beneficial to all.

Today I had the privilege of joining the First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, in her continued fight against drug and substance abuse. Through her Angel of Hope Foundation, a rehabilitation centre has been built in Mbare — a place of hope for young Zimbabweans battling addiction. At the centre, those admitted will be supported with life changing programs including vocational skills training and other important services to help them rebuild their lives. We saw the intake of several individuals starting their journey to recovery. During the visit one of them tipped us off about a nearby drug base. The Zimbabwe Republic Police responded quickly and took immediate action. This shows how community vigilance saves lives. I want to commend the First Lady for her dedication, thank the ZRP for their swift response and applaud members of the public who speak out to expose these dangerous networks. To our youth; your future is too precious to be wasted on drugs and harmful substances. Let us stand together and fight this scourge. Together we can protect our communities and build a brighter future.

Today, during community visits in my constituency, I met an incredible elderly woman who’s caring for over 15 orphaned and underprivileged children from her community — all from her own humble means. Her story is a powerful reminder that you don’t need to be a millionaire to make a difference. All it takes is a good heart, compassion and the will to act. Let’s all do what we can, no matter how small — every act of kindness counts.
