🎙️ Bill Simmons reading a fan email: "Imagine you're dating an absolute smoke show in college who was tons of fun, but completely insane. She's amazing in bed and at parties, but she also goes through your phone when you're not looking. Also, she's a horrible driver. You know it's not gonna last, and that she isn't the kind of girl you'd introduce to your parents, so you break up. Deep down, you know she wasn't a long-term solution, but when she's gone, you just feel alone and that sucks. That's how it feels to be a Hornets fan right now." 😕 🎙️ Zach Lowe: "I was trying to figure out where that was going... it landed in a good NBA place, actually. Good email." (📹

🎙️ Bill Simmons on the LaMelo Ball trade: "I'm at A- or A for Charlotte... I couldn't believe the trade for Minnesota. I f-cking hated it." "I get it on paper; LaMelo Ball would solve a lot of problems that you had with Anthony Edwards last year. There's one problem: He doesn't f-cking play. He's played two seasons of the last six. Last year, he played big minutes early, got hurt, came back. I watched a ton of Charlotte last year. They were using him like a race car on Sundays, just driving him slowly around the block. He averaged 27.5 MPG from mid-November on. They were really, really careful about not getting him hurt again, almost like they knew they were gonna trade him this summer." "He's the least durable good guard of the last 25 years: Six seasons, 9,400 minutes, zero playoff games, which puts him on this crazy list of guys who have averaged 20 PPG in their first six seasons but have played less than 10,000 minutes. And it's basically just him, Ja Morant and Zion (Williamson)? That's it? He's not reliable! I think he has metal in his ankle. This is not like, 'Oh, Steph Curry had ankle injuries, too'... LaMelo's injuries are WAY worse than Steph Curry's were." 🎙️ Zach Lowe: "I think when you combine this trade with the (Miles) Bridges trade that happened today, Charlotte has come out looking awesome... great work by the Hornets who continue to just kill it under their new regime." Miles Bridges is getting "a ton of interest" around the league, per Shams Charania. "They already got some trade calls in on [Naz Reid], but the plan is right now to keep him. This is a team that could still shift the roster around a little bit if they want."

🎙️ Kon Knueppel on the big Hornets trade and his mindset going forward: "Definitely a change. I think for fans it's a little tough, just with like, 'Man, we saw some success and we kind of saw it with that team,' and I think the front office made the decision like, 'Man, maybe we don't see this long term.' So, I don't know if 'weren't convinced' is the right word, but they just wanted to move in a different direction." "As a player, you just kinda gotta business as usual. You gotta move forward and keep getting better, but we're definitely gonna have to play a little differently than last year. Obviously, we just have different personnel. I don't know, I like the group we got coming in. I'm excited. We got shooters out the wazoo, so that'll be fun." "I think we got a good team. I feel like we can build off what we did last year and just keep getting better. I think that's the focus for us as individuals, just keep getting better each day, working on our games. But going forward, I feel good about where we are at as an organization." (Crazie Cast 📹

🎙️ Kon Knueppel on having his teammates over for dinner at his family home in Milwaukee last night: "Taking the bus down my street, going home, that was weird. And a bunch of NBA players in my house. It was a lot of big people, but my family enjoyed it." Kon II Knueppel Pregame:

🎙️ Zach Lowe on the Charlotte Hornets' decision: "I think it really comes down to a physical toughness question that they have about LaMelo Ball." "You watch these playoff series, Oklahoma City-San Antonio, San Antonio-New York, and you just envision, like, 'This is a dude, a front runner is too strong of a term, fast and loose. When the game's fun, that's when he's at his best.' What are you gonna do in Game 5 of a playoff series when Stephon Castle has been in your jersey for five straight games? When you're switching between Jalen Williams and Kason Wallace and Alex Caruso bumping you, physically just manhandling you up and down the court? Are you actually game for that?" "Because if you're gonna be a serious team, that's what you gotta be game for. And I think this trade says, 'Yes, there are these ancillary salary and pick benefits and faith in Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel and all that... the Hornets know the numbers. They know their offense wasn't good when LaMelo was on the bench. They know all of that stuff, and they decided anyway, 'We just don't think we can win the biggest games with this guy on our team.' I think that's really what it boils down to." 🤔 (📹

🎙️ Kon Knueppel on the family dinner: "It was special." "Mason (Plumlee), one of our vets, 35, year 13-14 for him. And he was like, 'I've never done this before, never gone to a teammate's house.' So that was cool to hear him say that. It was a special hour and a half for us."

🎙️ Coby White: "I've never been on a team this dangerous." "It could be a back-and-forth game and then you hit one run, and then you look up and you're up 20, and then you're up 30. The main thing for me is, we're explosive, but we're starting to hold those leads when we do get them and continue to build on them. That's the impressive thing for me too." 🎙️ On Moussa Diabate: "He's one of the most unselfish bigs that I've ever played with." "A lot of bigs get an offensive rebound, their first instinct is to go up... his first instinct is to find a shooter. That's huge for us in terms of dagger threes and creating second-chance opportunities. What Moussa does for the team can never go unnoticed."

🎙️ Grant Williams: "Jeff (Peterson) did a phenomenal job in our trades of getting great shooting around our roster, and it should be a fun style of basketball to play." "We have a completely new roster, which is part of the NBA. You gotta get used to playing with different guys. We lost two incredible players in LaMelo (Ball) and Miles (Bridges), but we got really good rookies in Hannes (Steinbach) and Christian (Anderson) coming in, and we have a lot of expectations for Coby White and the guys coming up to really show up."

🎙️ Miles Bridges: "I lost a lot of weight." "I'm moving like I was in 2022, I think, so I'm feeling good. Our offense is based on us running, so in order for me to be great in this offense, and in this defense, to play both sides of the floor, I gotta be in great shape."

🎙️ Jake Fischer: "Charlotte has already been super active; trading LaMelo Ball, trading Miles Bridges... I don't know how much more you want from Charlotte." "I really think that the Hornets, with their flexibility under the tax and not exactly so many pieces nailed down in the furniture there... obviously, this is a Kon Knueppel, Brandon Miller operation. They're very excited to have Naz Reid in the mix. I don't necessarily think they are absolutely convinced that Hannes Steinbach is gonna be their starting center forever, but I do believe between him and Ryan Kalkbrenner, the Hornets weren't exactly looking for a Mitchell Robinson type for a veteran center to come in there right now." "I still think Charlotte's open to do some type of trade business depending on what opportunities exist for them to be compensated. Like, if Houston's calling them about Dorian Finney-Smith, for example, I wouldn't be surprised. But I don't really have Charlotte as up to anything else at this juncture."
