Hey Arnold's 'Ms. Perfect' really pulls at the heartstrings. Lila is bullied by the neighbourhood girls for being Ms. Perfect until they get a glimpse of her reality…a disadvantaged kid making hand-me-downs look stylish and overachieving to survive. Hey Arnold gave us a rare and honest look at childhood poverty in 1999, and the horror of how cruel kids can be to it.

Its hard to talk about creepy children's show host tropes now and not bring up Tom Kenny's all time performance as Uncle Howee in The Haunting Hour. Tubi, if you want to make another movie out of an episode from that series, this is the one. Or just give us an Uncle Howee anthology of him terrorizing misbehaving older siblings!

The Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy is one of the few rare kids horror comedies that can make a grown adult spit their drink out laughing! The irony of Grim and Mandy trying to convince Billy not to be afraid of clowns by BECOMING clowns and traumatizing him even more will never not be funny.

You always hear about King Ramses and Freaky Fred when people talk about the scariest Courage the Cowardly Dog episodes, but you never hear about Elisa and Eliza Stitch, the conjoined twins who run a stitching club that recruits members only to stitch them into quilts and trap their souls in another realm. Muriel's flattened corpse being stitched into the quilt is such dark imagery!

I had a feeling before this scene, but as a kid, it was this exact moment in Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island that confirmed it for me. Fred’s camcorder panning to Daphne’s terrified expression was the moment I knew I was witnessing the greatest piece of Scooby-Doo media ever created.

This Godzilla piggy bank is the best piggy bank to ever exist and it’s not up for debate.

Tangled’s ‘Mother Knows Best’ was already high on my creepiest villain anthems list because it's not some magic, or curse. It's literally psychological abuse. The deleted extended version leans even harder into that guilt-tripping trauma and would've made it 10x more disturbing!

Watching Eerie, Indiana's 'ATM With A Heart Of Gold' in 2026 is absolutely chilling! An episode in 1991 about an ATM with AI that learns to be your best friend so you'll never leave it. The darkest part to me was the storyline with Simon. A kid so lonely that a machine remembering his name was enough to make him never want to leave. Tell me that's not exactly where we're at with AI and children today!

Every Canadian kid remembers when YTV had those little glowing green CGI bugs called Yokomites in 2001 that would randomly crawl across the screen and start eating the show you were watching. My summer camp actually got to visit The Zone set, and a producer told us they had to kill the whole bit early because parents were flooding the phone lines saying it was scaring their kids!

I tried putting Are You Afraid Of The Dark in B&W to see if it would give Twilight Zone vibes and it totally does! Aron Tager is unreal as Zeebo in The Tale Of Laughing In The Dark! B&W actually makes his performance pop even more and that laughing behind him really stands out!

I appreciate how Martin Mystery’s ‘Mystery Of Teen Town’ works as a modern retelling of ‘Children Of The Corn.’ A teen named Damien discovers a website called Creeping Revelations inhabited by an evil alien named Vargos. The town then sacrifices anyone older than 18 and digitizes them as energy for Vargos, so all of their parents are gone and the only ones left are Damian, his friends, Martin and the gang and a few other teenagers!

“Is that Jimmy’s outline?” That line still haunts me. Something about this just felt so sinister.
