I always think of the part in Bill Burr’s legendary Philly Rant where he told the crowd that the city built a statue of a fictional Rocky because they couldn’t tolerate Joe Frazier because he was Black. Burr is one of my favorite comedians and always tells it like it is. 😂

Godfrey says that Dominicans would identify as Black if Reparations were paid— “I Black… it was a yoke.” 🤣🤣

“Who’s gonna know if I play on this Black kid’s record?” -Eddie Van Halen A secret, unpaid favor to Quincy Jones that only took twenty minutes to play on a “Black kid’s record” turned into one of the best and memorable guitar solos in pop music history. 😂🎸🕊️🕊️

Her take is valid. My introduction to Tarantino was Pulp Fiction and it seemed like he wrote himself in just to repeatedly say the word in this cringe scene. Scorsese did the same thing in Taxi Driver, writing himself in as a character saying it. There was definitely an era of iconic filmmakers writing themselves in as characters in their movies saying the word— their personal motivations can certainly be questioned.

I’ve known MANY women like her. They date Black men until they meet the right White guy who doesn’t mind she’s dated Black men, or she won’t tell him. And I was right about her too, as I saw with a guy she’d recently dated who was in recovery with her who passed away 🕊️🙏🏼 The “Black men like me”BS is just for clout. Never take women like this seriously because they’ll never take us seriously.

They experienced it on some level. It may not have been overt, but they knew what it was and brushed it off. Even when it’s overt, many stay silent and internalize it. Case in point, Sage Steele. How her voice cracks when she says “you just wanna be accepted by somebody” says it all.

The only thing I’ve ever nitpicked was how Han told Lando not to get a scratch on the big-ass clunker of the Millennium Falcon in the middle of a firefight in space while also flying into the middle of the Death Star. Unrealistic expectations on a Black Man. 🙃

Eddie discussed this on Leno when the movie was released in 1992. Crazy, yet not surprising, that over 30 years later “unrealistic” has become “unqualified” for successful Black people in the real world. Boomerang is one of the best movies EVER with one of the best movie soundtracks ever.
