Obsidian will continue to work on Avowed 2 | Jason Schreier "Obsidian have a small team that was working on Avowed 2, that's going to still work on Avowed 2 even though it is canceled. While they wait for other projects like Fallout to be ready for them. Maybe in hopes of getting it uncancelled, it was actually further along than most people would guess for a sequel to a game that came out last year. So I think their hope is perhaps they'll get it so close to finish that Xbox will look at it and say "Okay you can finish and release this, it won't cost that much more to finish it".

Xbox Series X can now run PS5 games thanks to experimental PS5X emulator Devran Cosmo Uenal is the creator of PS5X emulator, currently has GEX Trilogy, Hellboy Web of Wyrd, MARVEL Cosmic Invasion and Quake II working so far. PS5X is an experimental Xbox port of the KytyPS5 emulator, running PS5 homebrew and game backups directly on Series X through Developer Mode. Since Vulkan isn’t supported, everything has to be translated to DirectX — but some titles are already running with controller support and sound. It’s still very early, with limited compatibility, and there’s a lot of work left to do. AI has being used on the project. Stay up to date with the project, join his discord. Source:

Andrew Willis (former Doom producer) has criticized how Microsoft has handled Xbox Game Pass, calling it “extremely poorly managed.” Willis says “Microsoft was ever able to figure out exactly how to measure the success of Game Pass”, Was it based on how many hours played, was it games installed, was it user retention? He also says DOOM: The Dark Ages shouldn’t have been on Game Pass, saying: “Doom should not have been on there. That was a stupid idea.” via: Kiwi Talkz

UPDATE | Christopher Dring: Xbox is possibly spending below $200 million on PHYSINT Before that, a quick note about last week’s podcast. During the chat (not the newsletter), I mentioned that Hideo Kojima was reportedly seeking $400 million for his game PHYSINT. Now, regular listeners will know the ‘report’ I am talking about was just some rumors floating around Tokyo Game Show (I mentioned it in that week’s Here’s The Dring newsletter). It was nothing more than that. Anyway, it got picked up by the internet and I quickly had to clarify that it’s just a rumour, and not something I’d stake my reputation on. However, actually do now know now roughly exactly what Xbox is paying for PHYSINT and it's less than half that rumored number. Maybe the $400 million figure is what PlayStation were being quoted. Maybe PlayStation wanted different things. I don't know. It's all speculation. via: The Game Business

XBOX will still show competitive platform logos at XBOX Games Showcase. Matt said “We'll be very clear about what platforms a game is coming to and want to continue the precedent.” No news on Project Helix or the XBOX strategy. XBOX Showcase will focus on the teams and games.

![RUMOR | XBOX plans to put Halo under Activision Blizzard "I heard a crazy rumor that they might put Halo under Activision. […] this is the kind of thing that they’re looking at, ‘How do we structure Halo so it can actually start delivering on the level of potential that it actually has?’" XBOX is looking at how Activision Blizzard handles its franchises, thanks to its consistent frequency and stability over the years. RUMOR | Xbox to potentially pull games from Steam, according to Jez Corden “Microsoft has some plans with regards to how they show up on PC shall I say and I don't know what that pertains to with regards to steam. But the plans that I know about, and I've got to be careful here, plans suggest, it gives them a window to potentially pull out of Steam. So I would not be shocked if eventually we do see a universe where Microsoft, quits steam. But, I mean, we'll have to wait and see. I think it could go either way right now. I'm trying, I'm doing my research.” via: Xbox Two Podcast

UPDATE | Tim Schafer clarifies what he meant by “No one puts Double Fine out of business except for me.” “Unfortunately I did use names in my quote which made it a little more personal. But, the point being like it's not like we're saved. We got became independent again but are still in this rough situation as you guys know, what it's like out there these days. But we'd much rather, we're optimistic and we feel good about the future, but we'd much rather go out swinging under our own power than be just kind of kicked off a box by you know a large corporation. Like that's what I meant by no one puts up find out of business but me. We're not gonna go out of business. We're going to be great.” Original quote: “No one puts Double Fine out of business except for me. Asha is not going to shoot my dog. I'm going to shoot it, but I'm not going to shoot it because it's going to do great. A lot of people want to walk the dog.” via: Play, Watch, Listen

New York Times reporter Zachary Small asks whether Xbox can make a comback, even after tens of billions in investment. “Sharma comes in at Xbox and essentially says, we're in a really bad position, there were a lot of bad decisions that were made and is table-setting foe the rise up of Xbox. Really, where her talent lies, and maybe it's because she has a background in marketing, is changing how consumers think about Xbox.” “As Sony tells players that they're getting rid of physical discs, Sharma comes in and says, we're doing disc-to-digital entitlement programs so you can own your titles in the future, even if you don't have the disc. As Sony is breaking off its relationship with Hideo Kojima, one of the biggest auteurs in the industry, Sharma comes in and says, you know what, we're going to partner with Kojima.” “The reality is she can't control the economics of the industry. But she's turned just, you know, a whatever corporation into something of an underdog, even if their revenue is still $23 billion.”

![Asha Sharma says Project Helix is a ‘family of devices,’ not just one console — Built for performance with affordability “We've been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Project Helix. We will continue to push the boundaries of performance [...] we've talked about being able to play console and PC games on your console.” “I think in addition all of the industry needs to start to innovate on affordability and efficiency [...] all of us need to be thinking about and innovating on and giving people more choice in terms of how they play their console and how they purchase their console.” “And so our job as Xbox, as we continue on in our next generation, is to take into consideration what's happening in the world and build the best experience for our players. This next generation, we have to be thinking about efficiency and affordability alongside performance.”](https://image.24vids.com/tw-2093505321117327671/amplify_video_thumb/2093504155478351872/img/vzOKxVrqZGznQ3-q.jpg)

RUMOR | John Linneman said he heard from a couple of sources that Microsoft was very much going to continue disc support before the Xbox “reset” He heard “Microsoft was actually very much going to continue disc support, not because they value disc retail sales but because they wanted to ensure that all your Xbox games were still be playable on new Xboxes.” He mentioned that Xbox “could offer maybe like an external drive or basically some means. And I think that might all tie into this disc to digital stuff as well.” Also speculated that he sees a “future where Microsoft supports physical games going forward for users that want to take their library with them while Sony just completely cuts people off.” via: Digital Foundry
