They were brave enough to put on their Red Cross and Red Crescent vests to make the world a better place in the most challenging of times. Yet since the beginning of the year, 28 of our volunteers and staff have died or been killed while performing their humanitarian duties. In such a short time period, this is among the highest levels of global violence against National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ teams that we’ve ever experienced. The IFRC is calling for immediate and urgent action to protect humanitarian volunteers and staff around the world. Without protection and respect we cannot reach people and perform our lifesaving work. Together, we can #ProtectHumanity. #WorldHumanitarianDay2024

Twenty years ago, on 26 December 2004, the Indian Ocean #tsunami claimed 230,000+ lives. It was a tragedy that changed the way the world responds to disasters.
