“Forgive me, Mom. I chose the path of helping others.” These were the final words of a PRCS medic, captured in shocking footage showing rescuers under attack in Gaza. No one wearing a vest with a Red Cross or Red Crescent should ever be a target. As Jagan Chapagain said: "In Gaza, independent investigators must be allowed access and given full details of what happened. Impunity in any place breeds impunity in every place". - Tommaso Della Longa, IFRC Spokesperson talking to Sharon Gaffney on FRANCE 24 English.

They were brave enough to put on their Red Cross and Red Crescent vests to make the world a better place in the most challenging of times. Yet since the beginning of the year, 28 of our volunteers and staff have died or been killed while performing their humanitarian duties. In such a short time period, this is among the highest levels of global violence against National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ teams that we’ve ever experienced. The IFRC is calling for immediate and urgent action to protect humanitarian volunteers and staff around the world. Without protection and respect we cannot reach people and perform our lifesaving work. Together, we can #ProtectHumanity. #WorldHumanitarianDay2024
