“The humanitarian situation in Iran is absolutely desperate… the level of suffering in the country is immense,” said Scott Craig, Senior Media Offier, IFRC Despite disrupted supply lines and communication blackouts, the IFRC is bringing trauma kits, medical supplies, and essential aid to Iran. The جمعیت هلال‌احمر ایران teams are working around the clock to save lives and provide critical support. This is just the beginning. More support is urgently needed.

They were brave enough to put on their Red Cross and Red Crescent vests to make the world a better place in the most challenging of times. Yet since the beginning of the year, 28 of our volunteers and staff have died or been killed while performing their humanitarian duties. In such a short time period, this is among the highest levels of global violence against National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ teams that we’ve ever experienced. The IFRC is calling for immediate and urgent action to protect humanitarian volunteers and staff around the world. Without protection and respect we cannot reach people and perform our lifesaving work. Together, we can #ProtectHumanity. #WorldHumanitarianDay2024

Among them was a proud female paramedic who stood strong in the face of tragedy, a symbol of courage, humanity, and hope. Every life matters. Every act of care counts. ❤️

The 2004 tsunami was a turning point in disaster response, mobilizing the largest humanitarian effort in IFRC history. Today, we honor the memories of those we lost. Today, we reflect on two decades of lessons, resilience, and progress. Together, let’s continue building stronger communities.
