🌀 Moderate tropical storm #Hidaya is currently active over the #IndianOcean, north of #Madagascar. It is predicted to make a landfall along #Tanzania’s coast late on Friday, with associated heavy #rainfall likely to persist into Saturday morning before weakening and dissipating. The storm is expected to result in strong winds and heavy rainfall in coastal areas of #Tanzania. This could potentially result in #flooding and damage to power lines, homes, and properties. 🗨️ Dr. Korir Sing'Oei, Kenya's Principal Secretary for the State Department of Foreign Affairs, lauds #IGAD Heads of State for their decision to endorse the creation of a regional #climate #security coordination mechanism, a first in the world. The initiative, in collaboration with the United Nations' Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the #HornofAfrica, aims at assessing #climate risks to #peace and #security, coordinating solutions to manage them and channeling #finance to the most fragile and #climate vulnerable parts of the region. Dr. Sing'Oei made the remarks at a high-level event held during #UNGA78 ahead of #COP28 in #UAE later this year.
