UChicago’s trauma center overflowed and other hospitals had to take the rest. It was Chicago’s second-largest shooting of the year. Cops detained someone and recovered a gun. Witnesses still told police they saw someone leave with an AR-15. Pritzker already banned selling those rifles in Illinois. Illinois just discovered its emergency management agency spent $78.5 million on standby pay for contractors who were available but not working. Nearly 470,000 hours in total. $7.5 million of it went to 270 contractors who never performed any actual work at all. The agency never calculated how many people it needed. Instead, the vendor set the headcount and the state simply paid the invoices. Real oversight barely existed. All of this happened under Governor Pritzker, who has raised taxes and fees on Illinoisans more than 50 times. Taxpayers keep getting squeezed for more revenue, while the state spends without restraint.
