Reer Puntland, when you were bleeding in the mountains, they did not give a damn about “Somalia.” In fact, they saw you as the problem. When our sons were dying on the frontlines, they did not consider it a fight for Somalia against terrorism. They dismissed it, minimized it, and exploited it. For 28 years of sacrifice, what was the reward? Internal division engineered against us. Funding deliberately cut from Puntland’s defense forces, while billions in international counterterrorism money were pocketed by Mogadishu elites. Western taxpayers’ dollars were rerouted away from security and into corruption, money laundering, and vanity infrastructure projects. Make no mistake: the greatest enemy to #Puntland has never been outsiders. It has always been the BLM-Darods who are hell-bent on your destruction. Instead of investing in Puntland, strengthening it, and treating it as a pillar of stability, they chose to undermine it at every turn. Now, in their darkest hour, they believe Puntland is somehow obligated to rescue a failed banana republic. Yes, many politicians are corrupt and paid for. But what I owe my people is the truth: #Somaliland is gone. This is not recognition from some irrelevant, symbolic actor. Somaliland has been recognized by one of the most powerful entities on earth. Even if Puntland wanted to once again save an ungrateful project, it no longer has the capacity to do so. We warned them. They ignored us. They pushed us to this abyss. Now the choice is simple and brutal: the survival of Puntland as an entity, or our descent into the graveyard of forgotten nations.

These old Darod men are living in a fantasy world of the past, and honestly, who can blame them? Everything they believed for the last 31 plus years is completely outdated in today’s reality, and accepting that collapse must be painful. Imagine the emotional shock. A city they once thought was theirs or belonged to everyone suddenly isn’t theirs anymore. In fact, they are now guests. History repeats itself. Ask the Latins about Constantinople. They too must have felt exactly what these old men are feeling today. But reality is reality, and it must be accepted. Reinvesting in their own regions is the only viable path forward. Not because the system is fair or functional, but because pretending otherwise has already brought nothing but decline and humiliation. I do not promote Balkanization, but I also refuse to prop up fantasies. If unity is ever going to survive, honest conversations must happen. Telling people that Mogadishu is for everyone when the city is visibly structured around the 4.5 system is a joke. A capital that belongs to all Somalis cannot be a place where some must be treated as polite, obedient guests. Trying to force Mogadishu to hold the title of shared capital, while the actual dynamics contradict that claim every single day, is bizarre. You must accept that you are a guest, that the lavish hotels double as padded walls for the delusional, and that the proper guest behavior is enforced. The real position should be clear: find a city no one owns and designate it as the shared capital. If not, the inevitable future is a Yugoslav-style Balkanization. To the victor go the spoils, and now we must discuss how to move forward based on real conditions, not on nostalgia, not on illusions. Mogadishu is not yours. And no matter how loudly the old guard protests, that fact will not change. The irony is that even the so-called owners send mixed messages: making the guests feel at home, then exploding with outrage when those guests act like they belong. It is a dangerous and confused game. In the end, if this mission is going to succeed, genuine honesty, not fantasy or denial, must be the foundation of the conversation.

It’s almost laughable how desperate some are to insert themselves into a conversation they weren’t even mentioned in (specifically, Somalia). This individual is relentlessly pushing the idea of "One Somalia," a delusional, utopian concept. The problem with this perspective is that when you lack a clear, analytical understanding of the on-the-ground realities, you end up supporting ideologies like "One Somalia" without any grasp of the situation. Right now, our brave defense forces (Puntland Defense Forces) are engaged in a fierce battle against international terrorists such as ISIS; without the assistance of African Union troops in southern Somalia, Turkish training, UK support, or any other "goodie bags" that have been handed out to others. #Puntland has fought to restore order in a way that the United States failed to do in the early '90s. When Puntland entered #Mogadishu, claiming to restore whatever vision you’re dreaming of, the very first thing they were met with was a request to leave. Yet Puntland continued its efforts, risking its own stability for the past 14 years. Currently, your so-called "Somalia" has blocked nearly $400 million in international funding for Puntland. This includes educational funds, health funds, and crucial infrastructure projects for economic prosperity. The very resources Puntland needs to continue its progress are being blocked by the central government. I understand you may have sympathy for the Palestinians, and I feel for their plight as well. But it’s hypocritical to cry over the atrocities in other places while ignoring the daily suffering and injustice within your so-called #Somalia. Under the current circumstances, I don’t see the Fatherland accepting your proposal. However, #Somaliland, unlike those who are still living in a fantasy, has been serious about its independence for nearly 35 years. Your dream of a unified Somalia died in 1991 for many, 1969 for others, and 1961 for yet more. This United Nations-backed "Somalia" project is nothing but a joke, and the rest of the world knows it. Eventually, everyone will come to see the truth.
