When people argue that #Taiwan has not done enough to support #Somaliland, I used to respond that the issue is not Taiwan’s unwillingness to help, but rather Somaliland’s limited capacity to fully utilize Taiwanese expertise and resources. That is precisely why this issue the foreign minister of #Israel discussing is so important. Large parts of Somaliland, including the capital, suffer from chronic water shortages despite receiving ample rainfall. Water management and rainwater harvesting are therefore not just development concerns but critical national security issues. In that context, I am encouraged to see Somaliland making practical use of its relationship with Israel in this area. Somaliland does not need desalination plants or overly complex water infrastructure. What it urgently needs are well-planned dams to capture and store runoff water. Naturally, these dams must be distributed fairly across the country to ensure equitable access and long-term stability.
