Saw a post about some translation issues in the 9트쫑 content, and here’s my 2 cents: San said: 그러면서 제일 킹받는 게 뭔지 알아? 내가 얘랑 커플템이 보이는 게 싫어가지고 Yt translation: Do you know what’s the most maddening? More accurate in context: And you know what annoys me the most? But here’s a nuance here, 킹받다 is slang from 열받다 (to get annoyed/pissed off), but it’s usually used in a more playful or comedic way/situation. San isn’t genuinely mad here, he’s playfully saying it annoys him. When San uses this word on his lives, I usually translate it in a way that shows he’s hilariously annoyed, or I add a translator’s note like (playfully). I think I’ve posted about 킹받다 before when I talked about how much nuance and context matter in translation, and now it’s happening... ahyuuu... 😮‍💨 Same with 싫다 here. Yt translated it as “I hate it,” but 싫다 doesn’t always mean “hate” It can mean “don’t like,” “dislike,” or even “don’t want to,” depending on the context. Here, San says 내가 얘랑 커플템이 보이는 게 싫어가지고, so “I don’t like our matching items being visible” fits the context better. “I hate it” sounds much stronger, especially when he’s saying all of this in a playful way..
