Took my son plane spotting at our usual spot on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam yesterday because he really wanted to catch the second Omega Tanker (the one with the boom). While he was out taking pictures, Security Forces rolled up and started asking why he was photographing aircraft. I walked over and chatted with the young Airman. He was cool about it—he just asked that we not take photos toward the parked C-17s, KC-46s, and KC-135s. No problem at all. We were there for the Omega Tanker anyway. After we got back to the car, Security Forces came by one more time just to look through the photos and confirm we hadn’t taken any of the parked military aircraft. In the end, everything was good, and we got what we came for—a successful catch of the Omega Tanker landing on Runway 8L in Honolulu. Interesting day… but definitely a successful one.

Saw an ad on Facebook and figured I’d try it—turned out to be a really solid pickup. My son and I have been using the Flight Wall, and it shows every aircraft flying over our house in real time. You can customize the area, track specific flights, and see details like altitude, speed, and route—it’s basically like having a mini ATC display at home. ( Now I’m seriously considering upgrading to the widescreen version. If you’re into aviation at all, this thing is legit.🤙🏼

My son wanted to go plane spotting yesterday, and we definitely lucked out! We got to see six F-22s and one F-35 take off from Honolulu International Airport—and the best part was they all took off one right after another! Seven fighters launching back-to-back made it an incredible sight. Seeing the huge smile on my son’s face—and then listening to him talk about it for hours afterward—was awesome. Those are the father-son moments you don’t forget. Of course, I might have had a little selfish motivation for going plane spotting too. I mean, who doesn’t love watching F-22s do a Hang 10 departure off the Reef Runway?! Six F-22s, one F-35, all launching one after another, the Reef Runway, and one very happy kid. I’d say we picked a pretty awesome day to go plane spotting! 🤙🏼 The video was taken on my phone and the pics are what he took on his camera.

Finally made it to The Fullerton Hotel Sydney to see the historic remnants of the Tank Stream hidden beneath the hotel. It’s hard to imagine that this small stream was the reason the First Fleet chose Sydney Cove. More than 230 years later, you can still stand beside a piece of the city’s original freshwater source tucked away under one of Sydney’s most iconic buildings. The best part? It doesn’t take much time to explore places like this. If you have a few spare minutes while walking around the CBD, it’s an easy way to experience a fascinating piece of Sydney’s history. If you’re into history, it’s definitely worth checking out the next time you’re in Sydney.

If you didn’t shed a tear watching this episode from Cockpit Casual, I’m not sure you have a heart. An incredible look at the human side of aviation and what the Spirit Airlines crews and employees are going through. Huge respect to Steve Giordano and Bob Allen for sharing these stories with all of us. Aviation is more than airplanes — it’s people, families, and livelihoods.
