This year, he was supposed to get a master's degree in political science. In the video, Hlib's parents will receive his diploma to loud applause. It’s not just “territory” we are talking about. It’s tens of thousands of people whose fate is being decided when negotiators casually say “let’s move this line here, let’s move it there”. They will either live in a democratic Ukrainian state or under an authoritarian Russian regime – that is what is at stake. And it is also about long-term defence. We are holding parts of Donbas that Russia has tried and failed to capture since 2014. Why should we abandon positions they could not take by force and move into territory that is much worse protected?
