BREAKING: A major flash-flood disaster has hit Nepal’s Rasuwa district, near the border with Tibet/China, after an event early Wednesday morning caused catastrophic flooding along the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi river systems. According to preliminary information presented by Nepal’s Foreign Minister, an earthquake struck the area at around 08:37 local time, apparently triggering an avalanche that then caused a sudden release of water and severe flash flooding. Authorities are still verifying the exact chain of events, so this remains preliminary. The flooding has caused major damage on both the Nepalese and Chinese sides of the border. On the Nepalese side, Rasuwa and Nuwakot appear to be among the worst affected areas. At least 17 people have been confirmed dead in Nepal, while dozens remain missing. Nepalese authorities say 26 police officers, nine Armed Police Force personnel and 44 military personnel are currently missing, alongside customs and immigration officials. The damage to infrastructure is extensive. Authorities report that at least 19 bridges and around 40 kilometres of roads have been damaged, while multiple hydropower projects have also been affected. The Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal says 13 hydropower projects in Rasuwa and Nuwakot were damaged. The important Rasuwagadhi border crossing with China has been closed, with reports that roads, bridges and customs infrastructure were swept away. More than 200 cargo trucks are believed to have been caught in the flooding, while many workers remain unaccounted for. There are also serious concerns about people trapped or missing at hydropower projects. Around 60 workers at the 20 MW Langtang Khola hydropower project in Syafrubesi have reportedly gone missing. The disaster is also affecting tourists. Nepal’s Tourism Board says 291 foreign tourists and 93 Nepali nationals were reported unreachable following the flooding. Rasuwa is an important route for pilgrims traveling toward Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet, as well as trekkers visiting the Langtang region. On the Chinese side, Chinese state media are reporting major casualties from a mudslide at a trade hub in Tibet, with President Xi Jinping ordering all-out search and rescue efforts and stronger monitoring to prevent secondary disasters. Nepal says it is coordinating with China as rescue operations continue. This is still a developing disaster. The number of casualties and missing people is expected to change as rescue teams reach areas that have been cut off, and the full extent of the damage is not yet known.

BREAKING: A drone has been found in Romania, in a field outside the commune of Viișoara, Vaslui County, in eastern Romania. The drone is believed to be Russian, and is believed to contain an explosive payload. Romanian authorities have isolated the area and deployed police officers and an SRI explosives team to examine the damaged aircraft. The location is significant: Viișoara lies between Bârlad and Vaslui, roughly 70 km west of the border with Moldova and well inland from Romania’s usual drone-incident areas along the Danube, close to the Ukrainian border. This places the reported discovery considerably farther inside Romanian territory than the areas where drone debris has more commonly been found following Russian attacks on Ukraine. Authorities are investigating the type of drone and the circumstances in which it reached the area. It remains unclear whether the aircraft was part of Russia’s overnight attack on Ukraine or was a stray drone that was not detected by Romanian military radar. The Romanian Interior authorities have notified the Iași Court of Appeal Prosecutor’s Office, which will oversee the investigation. No casualties have been reported.

NEW: A diplomatic controversy has erupted in Copenhagen after the U.S. Embassy removed 44 Danish flags honoring the 44 Danish soldiers killed during the war in Afghanistan. The flags were placed by Danish veterans in flower boxes on a public road outside the U.S. Embassy, shortly after Donald Trump criticized allied forces’ contributions in Afghanistan during a Fox News interview. In a written response to Danish broadcaster TV 2, the U.S. Embassy said the flags were removed because they were not installed by embassy staff nor formally coordinated, adding that it is standard practice to remove unauthorized objects and that there was no malicious intent. However, Danish media report that embassy security staff were aware of the flags and initially approved their placement, raising questions about the embassy’s explanation. The removal has triggered strong political backlash across party lines in Denmark. Multiple lawmakers have called the action disrespectful, “indecent,” and “insensitive,” noting that Denmark fought alongside the U.S. in Afghanistan and suffered one of the highest per-capita casualty rates among coalition partners. Copenhagen officials are now examining whether the embassy had the legal right to remove the flags from a public roadway. A demonstration and five-minute silence in honor of the fallen Danish soldiers is planned outside the embassy this weekend.

NEW: 🇷🇴A major forest fire has broken out near Plauru, Tulcea County, close to the Romanian-Ukrainian border. The fire started at around 17:50 in a forest managed by Romsilva, initially affecting approximately 0.5 hectares. According to Romsilva, local residents said the fire may have been caused by the explosion of a drone. Forestry workers, volunteer firefighters and local residents are currently working to contain the blaze. The location is particularly notable because Tulcea County is the Romanian area most affected by drone incidents and RO-Alert warnings during Russian attacks on Ukraine. As of now, Romania’s Ministry of Defence has not confirmed that a drone entered Romanian airspace in connection with the incident. For now, the drone explanation comes from local accounts cited by Romsilva, so we should wait for further confirmation from Romanian authorities before drawing conclusions.

A facility which appears to have contained missiles or other munitions has been destroyed in the Bucha district of Kyiv Region following a Russian attack. The resulting fire was accompanied by intense secondary explosions, a section of the M-06 highway has been temporarily closed while emergency crews respond.

BREAKDOWN | Fire Point's FP-7 footage is doing the rounds, and it's worth understanding what the thing actually is. It's a Ukrainian-made ground-launched ballistic missile, and it's pretty clearly Kyiv's answer to running out of ATACMS early last year. Here are the figures the company is putting out, up to 200 km of range, a 150 kg warhead, around 1,500 m/s top speed, and a claimed 14-meter CEP. On paper that lands it in roughly the same class as ATACMS. The difference Shtilerman keeps hammering is price, about half the cost, and that's really the whole logic of it. The point is to have something cheap enough to fire in volume, so that the enemy knocking down a handful doesn't decide anything.
