Intuitive Machines flight controllers successfully fired the first liquid methane and liquid oxygen engine in space, completing the IM-1 mission engine commissioning. Athena completed her scheduled 492-second main engine Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) burn at 6:27 a.m. CST on March 3 and is currently orbiting the Moon. Over the next several hours, flight controllers plan to analyze data to verify the lander’s targeted circular orbit and confirm Athena’s expected landing time. Athena continues to be in excellent health and is expected to send lunar orbit selfies over the next two days before a landing attempt on March 6. (3MAR2025 0750 CST) #AdLunam #IM2 #Athena

Joined by legendary NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz, Intuitive Machines flight controllers commanded Athena’s third and final planned Trajectory Correction Maneuver (TCM) at p.m. CST on March 2 to refine the lander’s trajectory ahead of Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI). Our flight controllers used the Company’s Lunar Data Network to command Athena’s first planned Trajectory Correction maneuver (TCM) at 11:00 a.m. CT on February 28, 2025, to refine the lander’s trajectory ahead of Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI). Data from the 6-second full-thrust mainstage engine burn confirmed Athena hit her 9.5 m/s target with approximately .38 m/s accuracy. Propulsion mixture ratios, mass flow rate, and temperature were as predicted. The TCM was nominal per expectations. Athena continues to be in excellent health and is closer to the Moon now than the Earth. (28FEB2025 1630 CT)

We submitted the final proposal for the next phase of NASA’s Lunar Terrain Vehicle Services (LTVS) contract, to build, fly, and operate the Intuitive Machines-led Moon RACER vehicle on the Moon. NASA is expected to announce the LTV delivery and demonstration award by the end of 2025. Learn more:

But 2024 wasn’t just about the landing. It was about laying the foundation to provide lunar services that unlock the lunar economy. Highlights include: ⭐️ Winning $4.82 billion max value NASA Near Space Network contracts to establish communication and navigation services for missions in the near space region, ⭐️ Building on our leadership role in the Artemis campaign by earning a fourth contract under NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative, to deliver payloads to the Moon, and ⭐️ Securing a prime contractor position under NASA’s Lunar Terrain Vehicle Services contract and taking the Moon RACER LTV from concept to reality in just four months. We capped off an epic year by completing the LTV’s first round of human-in-the-loop testing just weeks ago. Apollo astronauts made history by driving the Lunar Roving Vehicle across the Moon’s surface. Now, their insights are helping push the frontier further with the Moon RACER team’s next-gen Lunar Terrain Vehicle. This month, we celebrated our 200th day of hot fire testing on the Mobile Test Stand (MTS)—a huge milestone on our journey to provide orbital and surface delivery services! Christened in March 2019, the MTS includes the avionics and propulsion systems required to perform development testing and performance verification of our main engine, motor valves, and avionics systems. The series of tests executed on our 200th test day advanced our performance, cooling, and stability objectives for the IM-3 main engine injector.
