🔴Roya Boroumand, Executive Director of the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center’s Statement on Executions and Prisoners’ Hunger Strike in Ghezel Hesar Prison. 🔸“Watching a fellow prisoner being taken to the gallows is never easy. Time freezes as prisoners know that their cellmate, friend, the person they lived with—sometimes for years—is hanging from a rope nearby, suffocating. The trauma is long-lasting. And in Ghezel Hesar prison, it reoccurs over and over again. Two, sometimes four or five prisoners are hanged every day somewhere in Iran.Too often on trumped-up charges, always in denial of the minimum standards of due process. 🔸As the war with the US monopolizes the world’s attention, Iran’s leaders are waging quietly a deadly war against their own people. And Ghezel Hesar’s Ward 2 prisoners are using the only peaceful means at their disposal to stop it. They are refusing to eat. They have now been on a hunger strike for over 10 days, but their call has been barely heard. 🔸The world’s leaders should hear their voices; they should know that to achieve sustainable peace with Iran, they must address the Islamic Republic’s quiet war on its own citizens” 🔸According to data collected by the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center, nearly 45% (2,946 cases) of all documented executions during the 10-year period from 2016 to 2025 were for alleged drug offenses. Under international law, the death penalty is restricted to the “most serious crimes”, interpreted as intentional killing –yet in Iran, non-violent drug offences account for the highest execution rates for such charges. 11 days after the start of this strike, no officials have answered for their situation or addressed their demands.

Today marks 35 years since the assassination of the pro-democracy lawyer and activist, Dr. Abdorrahman Boroumand, in Paris -- and 25 years since his daughters founded the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center. The Center, including its first project, the #Omid_Memorial, is dedicated to promoting Boroumand's ideals. Its creation also sends a message to the proponents of terror: Using violence to eliminate their opponents will not succeed in eliminating their ideas. Indeed, the memory of their victims challenges the collective conscience of a nation and spurs many to fight for freedom and human rights. Killing an opponent may delay, but it surely will not end, the quest for freedom.

«میگفتند تو نجس هستی!» #ذبیح_الله_محرمی به اتهام «خروج از دیانت اسلام و اختیار نمودن معتقدات فرقه ضاله بهائیت، ارتداد ملی» به اعدام محکوم شد. حکمی که با فشارهای بینالمللی نهایتا ۱۵ سال حبس تبدیل شد. آقای محرمی پس از ده سال حبس با عنوان «سکته قلبی» در زندان جان باخت.

On Friday, October 17, 2025, prisoners on the fifth day of their hunger strike at Qezel Hesar Prison released a statement titled "The Will of Qezel Hesar Prisoners." It read: "Now that we are writing this will, we are still alive, but awaiting death. We are breathing, but at any moment our name might be on tomorrow's execution list. We need you today, before it's too late."
