finished another part of the cathedral. Also added a bunch of gizmos for modifying the building. I have been doing so much procedural modeling these days, it feels like the geometry just appears as I think of it. Feels nice!

Reality check. Astra is crazy, but it is far away from one shot and done. Alot of hand holding, illogical output etc. This took 63 percent of a 5x pro subscirbtion and tens of iteration. Amazing for an initial block out but def needs a human artist to still actually finish it

I am so happy the tree is done, this killed me 🤡 So here some fully geo node procedural stylized tree. The hardest part was nailing the style and shading. Nodes here:

I have been playing around with generating chinese landsacape paintings in blender geometry node using vornoi noise. Hopefully I can finish the write up until tomorrow and share the nodes

I wanted to see how far Astra can go. From the very beginning to this, it took 92% of the 5x subscription. And tens of iterations. Blender + Astra + access to all my local tools and scripts. My next question is how much of my own time do I have to now put in to make this usable.

Everything on my todo list is done, time to go back and properly make the magic school scene. Tonight I added more scale control for the cliff side and added an extra layer of voronoi noise to the second cliff. This will make it easier to make giant landscapes

Making the procedural cliffs almost made me gave up. Its so hard 😅If you can allow yourself baking maps, remeshing etc, the problem becomes trivially easy. But without it you are fighting the lack of resolution. Any ways semi happy with my current setup. next is trees

The Cathedral! Generated fully in geometry nodes in Blender. Only procedural modeling, no booleans, 40k nodes. 🤡 Nodes available on my github, consider sharing because it will get the free asset to the hands of those who need it:

Procedural support beams for the bridge. Again funny how there any thing from gothic, rococo, roman, elven to timur architecture in a single arc. Made a bunch of geomtry nodes for this, a wrapper to wrap these shapes around cruves, spacing them perfectly etc.

Some more procedural topology stuff in geometry nodes. Interesting that the difference between a gothic church entrance, a window in cairo and an elfen door in middle earth is gamma function!
