Fun draft fact: Dirk Nowitzki was drafted at age 19 by the Dallas Mavericks, and he didn’t think he was ready for the NBA. Many Europeans back then would get drafted and continue playing in the Euro league, joining the NBA later or not at all. The Mavs wanted Dirk to gain confidence to play for the team, so they organized a one on one with their backup center at the time, Samaki Walker. Dirk cooked him, and at the end of the clip Samaki Walker says “He’s ready,” then the German translation takes over. Needless to say the plan worked, Dirk thought he was ready so he began his NBA career that year. What if this one on one never happens? What if Dirk never came over? 🤔🤔🤔
