They brought a 15-pound calf inside not knowing if he’d survive. Eventually, they had to explain to him that he wasn’t a dog and the couch wasn’t his. Zeke was born weeks early, too weak to stand or nurse. His family kept him warm and fed him around the clock. When he finally got walking, they bought him little shoes so he wouldn’t slip on the tile. Before long, he was playing with his best friend, a deaf dog, and curling up beside the woman who bottle-fed him to watch television. By 50 pounds, it was time to move outside. His family understood the arrangement was temporary. Zeke apparently hadn’t been consulted. Watch how he greets the woman who raised him when she comes home. How long would you have lasted before letting him back in?

At 14, Zack MacLeod Pinsent burned his last pair of jeans after finding a box of his great-grandfather’s suits, and he hasn’t worn modern clothes since. What could have remained a teenage phase became his trade. He taught himself historical tailoring and built a business in Brighton, drafting patterns by hand and making clothes using techniques from the 1660s through the 1920s. His clients now range from museums to people who simply want garments cut the old way. Last year he hosted a Regency Ball at Brighton’s Royal Pavilion that sold out in under three minutes, drawing 150 people from seventeen countries to spend a night dressed for the world Zack decided at 14 he’d rather live in.

More than 30 years ago, a Japanese diver working at an underwater shrine noticed the same wild fish kept coming around. He named her Yoriko. Then something happened that changed their relationship completely. She still lives wild in the ocean. He’s now in his 70s. And somehow, after all these years, she still knows when it’s him.

In 2016, a dog slipped into a steep concrete channel in Kazakhstan and couldn’t get back out. A young man climbed down to save it and got stuck too. Strangers along the bank linked arms, made a human chain down the wall, and pulled them both out. Ten years later, Kazakhstan put the whole thing in bronze. But look at the last hand. It reaches past the railing so anyone walking by can grab it and become the next person in the chain. What a great idea for a monument.

A Japanese restaurant put “face slap” on the menu. 500 yen per slap. Up to five. Extra 100 yen to pick your server. It started free. Demand forced them to charge. Onlookers cheered. Women requested multiple rounds. The owner noticed. So he flipped it: female customers could pay to do the slapping. American spas charge $200 for a sound bath. Japan charged $3.50 to hit you. Both call it stress relief. One of them has a waitlist.

Only one man on earth is allowed to see what Ethiopia's Orthodox Church says is the Ark of the Covenant. Graham Hancock says the monks who take that job develop cataracts and rarely live more than a few years after. He met the guardians in Axum over a span of years, long enough that one died and another took his place. The new guardian, his own eyes already clouding, told Hancock what he believed had killed the man before him. Scripture has its own stories about the Ark, from Uzzah, struck dead for touching it, to the Philistines who broke out in tumors after carrying it off.

In Oregon, all water is publicly owned. Rain that falls on your property. Snow that melts on your land. Gary Harrington didn’t accept that. He built three reservoirs on his 170-acre property in Eagle Point — collecting rainwater and snowmelt for personal use and wildfire protection. The state told him to drain the reservoirs. He refused. 30 days in jail. Nine misdemeanor convictions. $1,500 fine. His argument: it’s rain that fell on my land. Oregon’s argument: all water belongs to us. Oregon won.

A $12.8 million lottery ticket sat on a Circle K counter all night. The customer who ordered it walked out without paying. Next morning the store manager spotted it in the pile, clocked out, and paid a coworker $10 for the whole batch. Then signed the winner. He clocked out to make it look legal. Circle K called it fraud. In Arizona, unpaid tickets belong to the store. Judge decides by May 23. Would you have done the same? 💰

They spent $130 million pushing deeper into digital and delivery. Same-store sales kept falling, and Yum ultimately agreed to sell Pizza Hut in deals valued at $2.7 billion. Meanwhile the franchisee who refused to gut his dining rooms is filling his. Tim Sparks converted 38 of his own Pizza Huts back to the red roof, Tiffany lamps, checkered tablecloths, and salad bar. People drive two and three hours just to sit in his booths and put their phones down. 155 of those Classics stand now, across dozens of states, quietly proving the old thing never needed a rebrand — just its roof back. Have Red Roof in your town yet?

Martin Haseman lives on a homemade shantyboat on the Tennessee River. No landlord. No 30-year mortgage. His only rule: move the boat one mile every 14 days on TVA public water. The costs are surprisingly low: $400 to $800 a month, including food. Propane costs $15 to $40. Then there’s the line that stops people: gas for an entire year of required moves comes to about 3 gallons. A marina pass for showers and water runs $100, and even that’s optional. Many of us sign 30-year mortgages. He built a life around a boat and a compass. His biggest recurring expense isn’t a mortgage. It’s deciding where to anchor next. What’s the real number you pay every month just to stand still? Martin Haseman documents the life on YouTube — Another Time Another Place.

Orcas pulled up and surfed right alongside them. At Sunset Beach in Port Waikato, New Zealand, a pod of orcas joined two surfers in the lineup and rode the same waves just a few feet away. One guy ducked under a wave and came up face to face with a dorsal fin bigger than he was. They weren’t hunting anyone. They were just checking out something new in the water. There’s no record of a wild orca ever killing a human. Still doesn’t make it any less unnerving to look up and see one that close. Would you have kept surfing or paddled in? 🎥 Port Waikato, January 2025

🚨 Bill Clinton’s alleged son Danney Williams breaks his silence “I’ve been asking for a DNA test for decades,” Williams says — claiming Clinton ignored him while publicly doting on Chelsea. The resemblance? Uncomfortable. Judge the side-by-side photos for yourself. If the rumors are false, one test ends it. So why won’t he take it?

Monday: Thune called everyone flooding his office a “paid influencer ecosystem.” Tuesday: Elon posted his number to 200 million people. Today: Thune hit the Senate floor calling Dems’ “Jim Crow 2.0” framing “deeply irresponsible” — an insult to those who actually lived through that era. He still won’t kill the filibuster to pass the bill he calls “commonsense.” Insults the voters. Delivers the speech. Kills the bill. Every single time.

In 2007, people warned a 52-year-old Slovenian with a pot belly and a lunchtime wine habit that if he tried to swim the entire Amazon, he would die. Martin Strel had already swum the Danube, the Mississippi, and the Yangtze, so he knew what a river can do to a body, and he waded in anyway. There's a difference between not knowing any better and knowing how bad it could get, and he was the second kind.

A moose nearly killed this guy. Sixteen years later, it somehow became a rap career. Sideneck says he was driving a Hyundai Tiburon through Ontario in 2010 when a moose came through the windshield. His neck was broken in three places, his right arm was paralyzed, and he was pronounced dead at the scene before being airlifted to a Toronto hospital. He survived, and somewhere along the way, the thing that could have defined the rest of his life became the thing he decided to own. He called himself Sideneck. More than 2.5 million TikTok followers later, he has turned that identity into an absurdly confident character, and now there's an actual song called "Bitch I'm Sideneck," complete with a Bentley, gold chain, ski masks, and every other ridiculous piece of the flex. What could have been the thing he spent the rest of his life trying not to be known for became the name millions of people know him by.

This kid is COOKING on Free Bird. 🥁 His teacher Patrick J. Abdo can’t even process it.. Free Bird is a serious test for a drummer. The song runs about nine minutes, starting controlled before turning into an endurance test where you’ve got to keep the groove locked without rushing or fading as the intensity keeps climbing. And this kid is just sitting there handling it like it’s nothing. #FreeBird

This is a whole chicken roasted inside a pumpkin, and it just went on the list for my 11-year-old, who's learning to cook. The chicken, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, onions, garlic, and herbs cook without a drop of added water. Everything gives up its own juices until the pumpkin is a pot full of broth, with walls soft enough to scoop right into the bowl. She's going to want to be the one who carries it to the table. What you need: 1 large thick-walled cooking pumpkin (not a carving pumpkin, and make sure it fits your oven), 1 whole chicken, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, onions, garlic, rosemary, sage, thyme, bay leaves, a stock cube crumbled in for seasoning, salt, pepper, and olive oil. Set it in a roasting pan and cook at 350°F for about 4 hours, until the thickest part of the breast and inner thigh read 165°F. Shred the chicken back into the broth and serve it with scoops of pumpkin. Ever cooked anything inside a pumpkin? What did you make, and did it work?
