The great Paul Whitehouse is 68 years old today, which means I am obliged to post this (again!) - arguably the most majestically random but brilliant comedy sketch committed to celluloid for at least the last, what, forty, forty five years? Yes, forty, forty five years. Happy birthday Paul 🤘

I had a discussion yesterday with somebody about Father Ted and we ended up trying to choose, at first, our top 5 moments, which became 10, and then 20. Anyway, here's what I believe was my #4, featuring Ted, Dougal and "Your man from One Foot in the Grave. The, I don't believe it, man". Enjoy the sunshine 🌞

This Two Ronnies sketch was never televised originally (it appeared many years later), but I’ve no idea why. It was written by Ronnie Barker, under the pseudonym Gerald Wiley, and for my money it gives Four Candles a run for it’s money. Seriously, if I’d written something this good I’d just retire immediately. What a talent! Good morning.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's attempt to remake Star Wars, which was filmed while they were making the film, Paul, is a thing of beauty, IMVHO. Their go-to on-screen relationship that we've seen in so many films over the years always leaves me wanting more, and this is certainly no exception. Good day.

John Eric Bartholomew, AKA Eric Morecambe, was born 100 years ago today. Few people in history have made as many people laugh as Eric, and as someone whose life was dedicated to that purpose, I am sure it is an accolade he would have been incredibly proud of. For me, Eric’s brilliance lay not just in the laughter he created, but in the anticipation of the laughter to come. That gift was omnipresent, following him like a comedic halo. To see him was to smile instinctively, followed quickly by genuine laughter. His friend Tommy Cooper possessed that same rare quality, and I have many treasured memories of watching them both when I was young. Thanks to social media, Eric’s work continues to be enjoyed by millions worldwide every day, and appreciation for his immense talent only grows. Long may that continue. Here he is, with Ernie and Mr Preview, creating some 22 karat TV comedy gold. God bless Eric Morecambe x

The genre of Christian Ska may not be that well known, but it's a thing. Be afraid, kids.

Remembering the sublime genius, Maurice Cole, AKA Kenny Everett, who passed away on this day in 1995. Here he is in a very famous sketch alongside his friend and regular co-star, Billy Connolly, that took almost a day to record. Why? Well, because they hadn't hired any extras for the sketch they roped in some music hall performers who were recording in the studio next door and they all appeared in costume, much to the amusement of Kenny and Billy. The punchline was reached eventually, but they decided to include the outtakes. God bless Cuddly Ken x

As we all know, Parky was from Yorkshire, as was David Bowie's dad. This is a corker 👊

I haven't been able to banish this from my mind since I first saw it, so I may as well post it again. Good morning.

Behold, a clip from one of the best examples of comedic misunderstanding ever committed to film, in my humble opinion. Good day.

So taken was Mr Rod Stewart with Kenny Everett's wonderful inflating bum impression, which is still one of the most talked about sketches of all time, that he agreed to appear on an episode of The Kenny Everett Video Show in person. A skit was written shortly beforehand (probably on the back of a cigarette packet, according to Kenny's fellow writer, Barry Cryer) and away they went. The difference between Kenny's relationship with the likes of Rod Stewart, Kate Bush and Freddie Mercury, etc etc etc, and other DJs was that it was based on mutual admiration. They knew he was an inordinately talented human being and they respected him hugely. Subsequently, they trusted him enough to go along with semi-improvised stuff like this. Alas, I fear we shall never see his like again. God bless Rod though. What a great sport! Happy weekend to you all. I trust you'll be imbibing?
