When I'm told on social media that heat pumps don't work in old buildings I usually invite people to my 144 Victorian house in Oxford to see it with their own eyes. So far no one has accepted the invitation so I allow you to virtually step inside my house. Come on in! PS: I know I lost some hair and some weight since that video was shot. I would not mind getting back some hair but I don't need the extra weight.

Starting in 2016, today the world invests far more in clean energy than in fossil fuels.

The world’s largest electric vehicle isn’t a car or bus—it’s the eDumper, a 45-tonne mining truck in Switzerland. It hauls 65 tonnes and can finish a shift with more charge than it started, thanks to regenerative braking. If we can electrify mining trucks, what’s next?

The mind-blowing thing we get WRONG about energy: Our current energy system is very inefficient - we waste most of the energy in conversion processes. The good news: With electrification and renewable energy many of those inefficiencies will disappear. Video by DW News

Data centres are energy hungry but what if we could use their waste heat to heat our homes? That's exactly what happens in places like Finland: Cities are tapping the vast amounts of waste heat generated by data centres, and feeding it into district-heating networks.

How did Sweden become a heat pump super power? Listen to Sweden's inspirational story. In 10 minutes I explain how Sweden has installed millions of heat pumps and what we can learn from it. The video is from a recorded Nesta event in London from two weeks ago.

Can a medieval town replace fossil heating with clean energy? Yes it can! Here's an inspiring example from a place close to home for me - I grew up just a few miles from the German town of Lemgo founded in 1190. Many of Lemgo's buildings are very old and listed. The city is using district heating in combination with advanced heat pump technology, extracting heat from its wastewater treatment plant and the nearby River Bega. Lemgo has also installed solar thermal systems and aims to generate over 55% of its district heating from renewable sources by 2028. Investments in large-scale heat storage are also underway to further support the transition.
