We have a big tree by the front window of the bedroom… every morning I wake up at 7am to the cutest little chirps and conversations from all the birds who call it home. It’s one of the many small moments of joy that start my day… Did you know: 1️⃣ compared to urban noise exposer, hearing birds chirp has been shown to reduce stress levels (cortisol) by as much as 20% from as little as 5 minutes of exposure. This counts even if you hear it through in unnatural settings (like through headphones or on the TV). 2️⃣ in studies, anxiety dropped up to 25% when people were exposed to the sound. 3️⃣ positive affect increased by 25-35%. Participants report higher feelings of calm, safety, and optimism. The sound of birds has also been shown to help people recover faster from stress inducing interactions/situations. And if you’re dealing with mental fatigue or screen overload, listening to birds chit chat away, participants found themselves feeling mentally refreshed 25-40% faster than those who had listened to the hum of traffic or complete silence. Unfortunately, our turkeys don’t always count… but I’m grateful for this big ol’ tree 😜

Mark Carney has—just like Trudeau—rejected the idea of having a merit based cabinet, and will be again, including DEI practices by making sure 50% of his ministers are women. This reminded me of an incredibly powerful moment from Anaida Poilievre & Pierre Poilievre when I had the opportunity to chat about conservative women and common misconceptions. Meritocracy yields results—and yes, there are a ton of incredible women across all parties… but who do you think the women will be on Mark Carney’s Liberal cabinet picks? Likely the same ministers who under Justin Trudeau, absolutely failed their portfolios and caused the mess we’re in. As Ana says, Pierre surrounds himself with incredible women, not because of their gender… but because they are kick ass at what they do.

This Algoma Steel layoff situation just keeps getting worse and worse. Union claims the government kept giving money (to the tune of millions) without ANY worker provisions. Worse—they gave this money to lure Algoma into making “green steel”, which THEY KNEW would cause mass layoffs. This was confirmed in August of 2024 with a Globe and Mail report—but sure, let’s blame Trump tariffs 🤷‍♀️ Of course losing their entire market had an impact—but these layoffs were coming either way after Algoma decided to “transition”

Canada’s technical recession has more troubling implications than many would consider at first glance… “For months all of this has been blamed on Tariffs” Melanie Paradis absolutely nails it here.
