I’ll never forget Dolly Parton coming into the studio to record “My Father’s Daughter” with me. She told me the song reminded her of her own life story, and of “Coat of Many Colors,” which meant so much to me. And then, at 8 o’clock in the morning, she walked into the studio in full leather pants, lucite high heels, perfect hair, with sparkly butterflies woven through it — completely and unmistakably Dolly. She was prepared, gracious, funny, and consummately professional. And when she opened her mouth to sing, she was flawless. There are some people you admire from afar and somehow admire even more once you get to work beside them. Dolly is one of those people. An extraordinary artist, songwriter, storyteller, and woman. I feel so lucky that our voices got to meet on this song and that I have it as a memento to keep of her extraordinary life ❤️

Elon Musk Sound of Freedom | Movie It saddens me that some media is trying to politicize this movie. This is not left or right. It’s about millions of kids being trafficked, and no matter what your faith or creed, we need to protect all the vulnerable kids rather than fight over philosophical differences.

30 years ago, Who Will Save Your Soul came out as a CD single. Felt like a good day to share this memory—my first ever TV performance, on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Just me, a guitar, and a song I’d written at 16 while hitchhiking through Mexico. Forever grateful to Conan and the other late night shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live who really do help break young artists careers!

#Foolishgames was written when I was 18 or so. I was trying to conjure the same cinematic angst as Leonard Cohens The Famous Blue Raincoat. I was also heavily influenced by Pablo Neruda and his use of color and texture.I will release the second half of the song next! The song was too long for socials!

Song 2 of me singing the entire PIECES IF YOU ALBUM in order If you like this series - pls interact w the videos cause they are longer and the algorithm will suppress them otherwise I wrote “Pieces of You” when I was 18. To help me hold up a mirror to prejudice. The song intentionally uses harsh language—sexism, homophobia, antisemitism, bullying—because I wanted listeners to hear the kinds of things people actually say to each other, and to confront how fear and judgment get projected onto others. At the heart of the song is a question I was wrestling with: Why do we sometimes hate people who reflect parts of ourselves? Why do we reject in others the very pieces of ourselves we haven’t learned to accept or understand yet.

Here is the second half of foolish games. For those new here, I thought I’d sing the entire album Pieces Of You in order. This is song 4. You can hear the prior ones by checking out my page. I really need to practice Painters, Adrian and Amen. Lordy those are long ones too! What songs are you looking forward to the most?

This song that changed my life! Written with Steve Poltz - that’s him in the video. Directed by Lawrence Caroll... Losing a love can feel like shedding a skin - and that’s how the image of slipping out of the dress came into being. This simple song went on to break records - and has been a gift to me every day since writing it. Fun fact - did you know that is Flea playing bass on the album? Adore him…

Growing up is not the absence of dreaming. It’s being able to understand the difference between the ones you can hold and the ones that you’ve been sold. Celebrating 20 years of Goodbye Alice in Wonderland 🤍 Thank you for walking through this album with me, chapter by chapter, lyric by lyric. I made a few special pieces to celebrate—now in my merch store. Stream the album: Shop the merch:

Today is the anniversary of my sophomore album Spirit. My first album was so successful that the pressure to follow it up was immense. Every interview I did, the journalist would high light this, and tell me all about the ‘sophomore slump’. I had never meant to write ‘hits’. I just wrote songs as medicine for myself, and they turned out to be hits. Massive hits 🤷♀️ . In fact ‘you were meant for me’ went on to be the longest running single in HISTORY. Crazy.
