O.J. Brigance was the ultimate warrior. He was driven by a higher purpose, devoted to the Lord, and always cognizant of what he represented to so many people around the world. He illuminated every room he entered with his smile, his strength, and his genuine love of life. In 2007, doctors told O.J. he had 2–5 years to live after being diagnosed with ALS. Yet here I sit, 19 years later, in awe of the battle he completed. O.J. stared death squarely in the face and laughed, determined to notch yet another victory under his belt. It’s not simply the length of that fight which should be admired, but the manner in which he fought it. O.J. always kept that smile on his face. He never complained. And somehow, despite everything he was enduring, he always made a point to ask about YOU and YOUR loved ones. That was O.J. He was truly selfless - always putting others before himself, even while fighting a battle most of us could never begin to comprehend. He overcame the odds throughout his playing career - an undrafted free agent who fought and clawed his way to becoming the only player in history to win both a CFL and NFL championship with teams from the same city. But his work off the field will echo through the halls of eternity. Whether mentoring young men through his role with the Ravens or launching the Brigance Brigade Foundation alongside his loving wife, Chanda, O.J. touched countless lives with his light. And while he may no longer be with us, that light will continue to shine through all those he inspired for generations to come. My heart goes out to his amazing wife, Chanda, and to his parents during this incredibly difficult time. Chanda is the living embodiment of the vows we take at the altar - “in sickness and in health, till death do us part.” For nearly two decades, she stood faithfully by O.J.’s side with unwavering love, strength, and devotion. She is truly an angel on Earth. They say you should never meet your heroes - but anyone who ever had the privilege of sharing a moment with you would tell you that isn’t always true. You gave me guidance. You picked me up when I was down. You showed me what true love and genuine courage look like. You taught me what it means to possess a truly strong spirit. You taught me to stop worrying, wondering, and doubting. And most importantly, you taught me to surrender—to truly give myself to God, trust His plan, and have faith in His timing. I will carry those lessons with me for the rest of my life. I love you, Juice. No more pain, brother.
