![No award or accolade I’ve ever received for my work is more rewarding than this, from the mother of the girl I wrote about last week. Toward the end of the project, she had doubts about the story, and was having regrets about agreeing to talk to me. It was disheartening and upsetting — because you never want to hurt someone who is already experiencing great loss. So this note (below) meant the world to me. “I want to say I appreciate all your hard work in telling the story about how corrupt the whole situation is with Kamlet,the police and the justice system.There was never any accountability or investigation into [Gina’s] death. It is extremely upsetting to me On a daily basis that justice will never be served and the answers will most likely remain under the rug due to a lack of work by the people that are suppose to figure it out. I’m sorry for getting upset with you. I am happy with the story and hopefully something will come from it.
