Here's Brent Venables today being brutally honest about the state of Oklahoma's offensive line: "It's been incredibly inconsistent and very disappointing. As you build your football team, that's a critical place. That is a place that probably requires the most development of any position that you have on your roster." "Very uneven job when it comes to choosing the guys that we've brought in here. Way too many guys are coming and going at that position group...It's been very unstable and certainly not the kind of development that you want from top to bottom." #Sooners:

Here's Brent Venables tonight on Oklahoma's backup quarterbacks Whitt Newbauer and Bowe Bentley: "We've got great belief in them. Trust in them." "Both of those guys took a lot of the reps today. And we've split it up with the first two guys, Whitt and John (Mateer) since the start of the season. With Bowe getting probably, give or take, around 20 percent of the daily good-on-good reps." Venables went on to reaffirm that John Mateer is Oklahoma's starting quarterback #Sooners:

John Mateer said postgame that the crowd screaming helped him realize someone (Isaiah Sategna) must have been open deep Rewatching the play, you can see it Mateer is looking right, the crowd starts to go crazy, his eyes go down the field - and he finds Sategna #Sooners:

Skip Johnson's message to Oklahoma fans ahead of the College World Series Finals: "Have the whole state that are Sooners to come up here." "It's bigger than us. It really is. It's really about our state. It's really about being an OU Sooner. It's about all those details, being thankful, the president was here. We had Barry Switzer here. We had Bob Stoops, Jennie Baranczyk -- Trish, Toby Keith's wife was here. I hadn't seen her in a long time. And it brings tears to my eyes. And Josie and Roger Denny, I mean, John Mateer, our quarterback. I mean that's what's being an OU Sooner is about. It's about being a family. And the more those people can get up here and get it going, the better it is." #Sooners:

Here's Ben Arbuckle today when asked if he feels that he is coaching for his job: "I haven't thought about that one bit. I take each week as a week-by-week basis." "That's the only thing that is on the forefront of my mind, is these players and how to get them to go play at a really high level." #Sooners:

Here's Brent Venables today talking about the need for Oklahoma to be more "complimentary" on offense: "You've got to be able to push the ball down the field, or the defense is just going to cave in on you...We've got to be able to establish the run game. That's the bottom line. Got to be much better at doing that and sticking to it, as well." #Sooners:

Here's Brent Venables today recounting his $94 Taco Bell order after the win over Alabama on Saturday night when asked by Tom Green Only Big J journalism at Sooners Illustrated "It was a long line, but man it was worth the wait...We had to pull over, we ordered so much food they couldn't get it all ready. We ordered everything." "Whatever they put inside of a tortilla, the crunchy stuff, man it's freaking (good)...I have no idea what it was."

Great stuff from Brent Venables today reflecting on his last 4 years as the head coach at Oklahoma: "What the game of football has meant to me, it saved my life." "I like the good times, but I like to be doubted...I don't hold on to it. I remember, but I don't hold on to it." "I know I've lived a career that I don't deserve. It has represented excellence. Not perfectness. Excellence, for decades."

Skip Johnson has talked a lot about "the dugout" throughout Oklahoma's run, the other guys who haven't seen the field as much as they did during the regular season still supporting their teammates I asked Skip about that today: "It's uncommon at every level. I mean, from Little League all the way up. When their kid's not playing, all they hear is the negative energy. These guys really have been selfless." "Man, if you can teach those young men to be selfless in a selfish world, is really big to me. It's really big to me. When nobody cares who gets the credit, you can do amazing things. It's pretty amazing." #Sooners:

Here's five full minutes of Brent Venables today talking about the conversations he has with his coaches and players during games - so much good stuff: "Hey Ben (Arbuckle), they're not going to get another first down in the game. Let's manage it well." "I probably say that eight drives per game. 'This is the most important drive of the game.' And I really feel that in the moment." "Celebrate the things we asked them to do...Go over there and double punch somebody right in the freaking chest because they did what you've been talking about. This is what winning looks like. I don't always want it to be me, the lunatic head coach." "The kids like it when the coach is having fun, too." "(Grayson Miller) had to hear an earful. Next thing you know, he put it inside the 10...Grayson can take a butt-chewing and respond the right way."

Didn't end up sustaining, but when Oklahoma got it rolling in the 3rd quarter yesterday that stadium was on fire Love this 3rd down play, crowd loud, Ole Miss offense trying to communicate - and then Kendal Daniels lays the boom for the stop Shame this didn't carry into a win

Drake Stoops’ parting thoughts from Pro Day: “Whether it’s drafted or undrafted, I think an opportunity will arise and that’s all that matters. I mean shoot, I walked on at Oklahoma now I’m sitting here talking to you guys. At the end of the day, all I need is an opportunity.”

Here's Brent Venables today on the development of Oklahoma's wide receiver room - OU fans will enjoy hearing this: "More precise, more explosive. Trell Harris, in a 7-on-7 period, he got behind the defense and made an explosive play down the field today...That's a group that I'm seeing unit pride for the first time in a few years." #Sooners:

Here's Brent Venables today on how he views Missouri in terms of it being a rivalry game: "Well, they're going to be on our schedule every year for the foreseeable future...If everyone wants to make that a rival, fine. If they don't, I'm fine too." #Sooners:
