Over 50 Alawite girls have been abducted over the last two months. This is not to mention the 1800 Alawite civilians killed on the coast in March, or the 8 Alawite villages north of Hama that have been completely cleansed. The government has done little if anything to stop these killings, many of which have been carried out by government forces. Meanwhile, crowds in Homs have been parading in the Alawite sections of town chanting “Homs is for the Sunnis, Alawites get out.” At Homs Univ. Imams have been preaching against Christians and Alawites. These sectarian killings complicate the effort by Western gov's to lift sanctions or to affirm that the Sharaa gov is doing the right thing. Sheikh Saleh Mansour is becoming a leading voice among Syria's Alawites, because he is speaking out against the killings of fellow Alawites. Today he was the mediator in the release of (almost 10) captured HTS soldiers. Previous sheikhs were meek in the face of HTS. But Saleh Mansour is speaking up for the Alawites who are being killed. Alawites had no leaders under Assad because only Assad could raise his head. Sheikh Saleh has been speaking out against the militia members that are occupying liwa 107, a large military base in the village of Zama, east of Jableh in the Alawite Mountains. The base used to contain anti-ship missiles and was bombed by Israel. The new occupants, according to Sheikh Saleh are mostly foreigners, Chechens, Uzbeks, etc. At first they began to harrass the locals, insulting them and humiliating them, as well as stealing their cell phones and money.
